PARTIDA, UEZE 👀

It may seem like a surprise, but the UE Zenith Esports (UEZE) Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) team only had three days of preparation before ultimately earning the inaugural title in the UAAP Season 87 Esports Tournament.

“At first, we just wanted to be in the final four, so we’re shocked that even with our lack of preparation, we took home the gold medal,” team leader John Bartolo shared to the DAWN.

Keeping their eyes on the prize and composure was what won over their UAAP games, Bartolo shared.

However, the road was never easy for the Red-and-White Esports team.

Aside from having short time to spare, miscommunication during games was also a hindrance which they strived to overcome.

“We [remained] tenacious and optimistic that we would be victorious in each series. It was a hard-fought fight,” Bartolo emphasized.

The MLBB team is determined to keep the victories coming in the future, marking their championship as a “standard to keep their focus,” ever fueled and spirited for their upcoming games.

“This win is just the beginning of our continuous hard-work and dedication to win and represent the [University],” Bartolo said.

The UEZE, consisting of Elijah Vilaray, Arohn Cabigting, Ryan-Ver Federizo, Ariel Markjelo Dolar, John Zel Bartolo, and John Lawrence Chavez, are the first ever champions of the UAAP Esports Tournament in MLBB.

UE Zenith Warriors are Inaugural UAAP Esports ML Champions!

In stunning but well-deserved fashion, the UE Zenith Warriors, the University of the East’s esports athletes, have made history this Wednesday, August 21, 2024, by winning the championship of the inaugural ML esports tournament of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP)!

Taking place across four game days—August 17, 18, 20 and 21—at the Hyundai Hall at the Areté of Ateneo de Manila University, the UAAP Esports-Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Tournament ushered in UAAP Season 87 ahead of the season’s formal opening on September 7, 2024.

Forever etched in UAAP history as the first-ever UAAP Esports Champions is the pioneer UE Zenith Warriors batch composed of the following College Warriors of UE Manila and UE Caloocan:

1. College of Arts and Sciences-Manila BA Political Science student Ariel MarkJelo D. Dolar
2. College of Computer Studies and Systems BS Data Science student Ryan-Ver S. Federizo
3. CAS Caloocan BS Tourism Management student John Lawrence L. Chavez
4. College of Business Administration-Caloocan BS Accountancy student Elijah Vilaray, and
5. College of Engineering-Caloocan students Arohn Cabigting (BS Civil Engineering) and
6. John Zel S. Bartolo (BS Computer Engineering)

UE BS Information Technology student Benedict Sampang is the team’s Head Coach, with Mr. Cabigting as the team’s playing Coach.

As part of the tournament’s Group B, the Zenith Warriors faced their counterparts in the University of Santo Tomas last Saturday, August 17, and in UAAP Season 87 host University of the Philippines last Sunday, Aug. 18. This past Tuesday, Aug. 20, our Esports Warriors were up against their counterparts in Adamson University around 1 p.m. then in UP past 5 p.m.

This Wednesday, Aug. 21, they won against their two closest University Belt neighbors: Far Eastern University, 2-1, in the semi-finals in the morning, then the otherwise undefeated UST, 2-0, at the grand finals in the afternoon!

Today concludes the end of the Valorant group stage.

The UE Zenith Warriors Valorant team faced a tough challenge against the Fighting Maroons, falling short with scores of 8-13 and 12-14.

Despite the setback, the Warriors showed determination as they regrouped to take on the NU Bulldogs. In a thrilling comeback, they fought hard and secured a split with scores of 10-13 and 13-8.
