Welcome to A Fistful of Carbon!
A Fistful of Carbon is a pulpy Space Western campaign boffer LARP that focuses on inter-character drama and classic western frontier pastiche.
In the game, players take the roles of settlers of a new colony planet at the far reaches of the galaxy, distant from Borealis, the Big City in the center. Settlers will determine the identity of their small-town settlement over the course of a 15-event campaign cycle, from making their home habitable all the way to crafting their ideal settlement for the future to come.
It's hard to survive out on the edge of the galaxy. Each character will belong to one of five factions, responsible for upkeep of one of the systems critical to survival of the entire settlement. The factions, called Cils, will be culturally divided and in constant competition with each other over a limited pool of resources, but must find ways to work together to overcome differences in their values and unite the settlement for the sake of survival against common threats.
This game is primarily focused on collaborative storytelling and creation of conflict between characters that they must work to resolve. We don't focus as much on competition and trying to "win". Theft exists in the game, but doesn't involve losing resources. Character death is totally optional (though being mortally wounded does affect the outcome of combat), and we intentionally haven't included many horror elements. Characters are frequently encouraged to "lose" so players can create more complex, dramatic, and interesting stories. We heavily encourage larger-than-life actions and reactions, making your own story in our sandbox, and including other players in scenes you engineer.
Characters generally don't "gain levels" throughout the game mechanically, but may change their skill loadout between games to fit the playstyle they're interested in pursuing. Game mechanics primarily exist to encourage players to further their characters' stories and create cool scenes. Each individual character is capable of almost anything any other character could feasibly do in the game- every character can heal, gather, craft, and fight, but character Jobs exist to encourage specific play patterns and show unique strengths.
We'll see you soon out on the Final Frontier!
