Joe Cairney was kind enough to chat with me after Comedy of Errors' fabulous gig at Fusion 3.5.

In this episode, Brian chats to Joe Cairney of Comedy of Errors after their triumphant, or triumphal even, gig at Fusion 3.5. He may, or may not, give away some exclusive news, but our hearts go out to him after the loss of a good friend. Hugs, Joe. We find time to play a […]

Season 3 of the From the Attic podcast launches with a proper banger. As I believe the younglings say. Brian and Alan Kraslow, aka The Kraaaaz, chat to Phil and Ade of Stuckfish, at the Fusion 3.5 Festival. Much jolly badinage ensues, there's a Hob Nob biscuit entendre-adjacent incident, and we spin a few Stuckfish tunes in and amongst:

– Calling
– The Bridge (That Spans the Edge of Time)
– Fallen Angels

There may or may not be a Focus interstitial to finish things up.
Their new album, Days of Innocence, is available for pre-order at http://www.stuckfish.bandcamp.com, and is released on April 16th.

For this live, as it ‘appened, episode I’m joined by multi-instrumentalist Peter Lawson who called in from his Manchester studio to talk about his extensive back catalogue, in both solo and ‘Venus Loon’ iterations.

We played tracks from all three Venus Loon albums, as well as one of Peter’s Desert Island Discs by Cardiacs, and the eponymous track from his ‘1978’ album. We also chatted about the upcoming 4th Venus Loon album, a concept piece about the Apollo space missions.

A super time was had by all, and we engaged in a considerable amount of jolly badinage.

We’re joined in The Attic this time by progressive rock legend Billy Ritchie, and his pal Dave Dawson. We talk all things 1-2-3 and Clouds-related, and find time to listen to such seminal tunes as ‘America’, live at The Marquee in 1967; ‘Imagine Me’ live on the TV show Beat Club in 1970; and the album cuts ‘Waiter, There’s Something In My Soup and ‘Watercolour Days’.

It’s a truly fascinating delve into the heady days of British rock music in the 1960s and 1970s with a true musical genius (not just our view, by the way, but David Bowie’s too). We had a blast recording this Pod, and hope you enjoy it.

Billy’s autobiography ‘The ABC of 1-2-3’ is available wherever books are sold.

We’re joined for this episode of the From the Attic podcast by National Treasure and Salt of the Earth* Tom Slatter, to engage in jolly badinage, manly bantz, and wistful reflection. We also find time to talk about his new record ‘Escape’, which is exceedingly good.

We play four (4) tracks from the album, mainly (i.e. actually) the ones we didn’t play on a recent NTAPS, for reasons of time, taste, and reason, when Escape was, for reasons known only to Dead Bob, his ‘Record of the Week’.

Season 2 launch!

Our first Pod in season 2 is up.

Initially intended to be inserted into an NTAPS, the interview was so good, slash funny, it was deemed eminently worthy to kick off season 2 of the FTA podcasts. Gareth Cole has played guitar on several Dead Bob Records of the Week, most recently by Drifting Sun Fractal Mirror, and, soon to appear on NTAPS, Tom Slatter.

Not only is he a fantastic guitar player, obvs, but he’s a marvellous guest, and the chat / badinage is top-notch. We also find time to play some music, by Drifting Sun, Fractal Mirror, and Genesis. Truth be told, Maureen in HR has a bit of a crush on him, so we’re leveraging that to get some new post-its for the studio.

The latest edition of the pod sees me chatting with Nellie Pitts.

Find out why she is/was unsung. Ask yourself why, after the first time she was deemed to be unsung, she won the Unsung Award again. Learn about prog merchandising, multi-tasking, cat-herding, bag slash hat slash making and more. Hear some groovy tunes, including one that has yodelling in it.

And above all, you’ll at least begin to try and fathom out all her many and varied different website addresses. Big Baggy Noddy Friday, et al. She’s so busy she has tons, so we have tried to help her out by reproducing them all below, in a handily readable format. Called English.

Particle Theory (2021 Version)
Tubular Rainbows

He opens himself up to having a shoe thrown at him by Steven Wilson, and recommends a new band to us (Papadosio), so we seamlessly play something by them, too.

In this episode of the From the Attic podcast we explore the inner workings of Dave Dawson’s minds via a cunning system of flaps, straps, and harnesses.

Expect to hear about Gary Numan, Motley Crue (not sure where the umlaut goes, tbh), Tom Robinson, Haze, Genesis, and the entire pantheon of modern rock music as is known thus far. Oh yes, and we plug his new book a bit.

It’s been on my bucket list for a while but we finally coaxed Alan ‘The Kraaaz’ Kraslow into the Attic. Whilst he’s been here in person once before, when he first visited these fair shores, this is his first time on the Pod and suffice to say it’s a belter of an episode.

Interspersed amongst the conversation, where we touch upon Alan’s career, his recent travels, and the mandatory middle-aged manly bobbins, we find time to play a few of his favourite tracks by Crosby & Nash, Todd Rundgren, and Marillion. So sit back, relax, and enjoy.
