Lots of excellent coverage on Worthing's historic General Election, but we suspect The Journal's extensive report might be the one our MPs cut out and keep. However, readers will ultimately be the judge of that.

Live in Findon Valley? Well, there's something special on pages 66 and 67 of August's WJ.

25/07/2024

The general upkeep of the town comes under the spotlight in August's WJ - the article bearing the headline: "One Day The Penny Might Drop".

Did you know that Worthing was once, officially, the "worst" seaweed town in the world, according to experts?
In August's WJ we look back to 1986, Worthing's last "Seaweed Year", and even further to astonishing days from our distant past.
Only those who have experienced it first hand know what it was like back in the day.
But its disappearance spelt ecological disaster, which marine campaigners are now fighting to reverse.

25/07/2024

Check out the latest shops, restaurants, pubs, cafes and entertainments gossip in the WJ.
Each month we publish:
Table Manners
Retail Therapy
and
What's On, featuring that wily old fox, Thespian!
August's edition contains a photo review of Ferring Amateur Dramatic Society's latest production.

25/07/2024

There are nine pages of letters and feedback in August's WJ.
The diversity of the topics discussed is fantastic.

We remember The Day Sussex Died in August's Worthing Journal, having attended the memorial service in Beach House Park.
The three page feature contains quite possibly the most moving speech I have heard in my 40-plus year reporting career - from the Mayor of Richebourg, France, where so many members of the Royal Sussex Regiment laid down their lives in 1916.

August's Worthing Journal contains wonderful features, with photos galore, on:

Congratulations to coun Sophie Cox who tonight made a sound start to her new role as leader of Worthing Borough Council. Best when answering questions without a script. Speaks super fast, even faster than her predecessor, Dr Beccy Cooper, which challenges my shorthand at times, but that's my problem, not hers :)

Our July edition contains a series of heartrending and thought-provoking stories relating to Worthing and D-Day.
One told the story of a Canadian Normandy veteran who was accidentally shot dead by his best friend on the last day of the war, leaving a newborn baby behind.
That baby, Lindsay Buchanan, of Goring, wrote: "Just wanted to thank you SO much for the lovely lovely article in the Journal.....really appreciate it, and so does my Canadian family, also my UK family."
The Worthing Journal, real local journalism, and the first draft of history.

There was a great deal of discussion about August's cover on The Worthing Journal Readers' Group page. We went for Chelsea pensioners outside the Pavilion Theatre with an inset photograph of our two newly elected Labour MPs. Obviously, being the August edition, it's not yet out, but will be coming soon, complete with nine fantastic pages of letters! No, not nine letters, or even two, but nine pages! ;)
