Their next concert is “Last Night of the Proms” on Friday 13th September at Queens Hall Theatre, Taunton and today their Chair, Sheila Read, talks about the orchestra’s work, this lovely programme and the commitment of all the musicians
10:00 William Sitwell is a food writer, restaurant critic for The Telegraph, a broadcaster, author, supper club host and judge on Masterchef. Today, William tells listeners about the success of his recent RestFest, an evening of food and delights in the centre of Wiveliscombe. He will also highlight his recent book, “The Restaurant: A 2000 Year History of Dining Out” which will be a feature of the Literary Festival soon!
10.30 A new photographic exhibition will open soon at Greenways Studios, Ashbrittle created by Paul Leyland. The artists, Ulick Palmer and Rob Stopford, will exhibit their work from 8th – 22nd September and will be at the studios to talk to visitors about their work throughout. Gillian Payne founded the charity in 2008 and it has gone from strength to strength with branches across the country. Pauline talked to Gillian at her idyllic farm and studio, overlooking the glorious Wimbleball Lake.

10:00 John Burgess presents “Somerset People” In Somerset People we replay interviews with some amazing people which John Burgess unearthed and interviewed about twenty years ago for BBC Radio Somerset or Somerset Sound as it was known then. This morning’s the last in our current series and we hear from a man who was a professional musician all of his working life. Ron Prentice is his name and he worked with some of the top artists and orchestras including his proud association with the famous John Barry Orchestra during the time when they recorded the musical soundtracks on many of the Bond films. When Ron retired he made his home in Ash Priors and that’s where John interviewed him over breakfast.
10.30 “L B Loxley’s Wildlife” Merrow Downs is a place of natural beauty set in the Surrey Hills. LB talks to Kathy Atkinson, Chair of the National Landscape Board, who along with a local group, are trying to save the area from developers.

In the past he has performed, devised and collaborated with such theatre companies as Little Bulb, Bristol Old Vic, Improbable, Tim Crouch, Opposable Thumbs, Pickled Image, Green Ginger, Theatre Alibi, Travelling Light and Lone Twin. Vic is now bringing “No One is Listening” - a Ghost Story which will be performed in The Town Hall on 6th and 7th September and today Vic talks about his inspirations and what scares we can expect!

As always, Suzie and her guest promote indie bookshops and libraries. Did you know each time you borrow a book from the library the author gets paid? Often more than the royalties they receive!
