Watford away at Aston Villa was an entirely more convincing display than we might have expected. It looks like Roy's plan is coming together but the proof, as ever, is in the eating and so after this we will be hoping two games this coming week see us offer the same determination and drive as evidenced at Villa Park.

You 'Orns TVs The Boot Room look at the change in shape, attitude and hunger that saw a result when we needed it most and a determination that we hope is the "new normal" and not just a flash in the pan.

We take a mercifully short look at the home defeat to Brighton to see where the damage was done. What could have been a triumphant unveiling of our new manager instead turned out to be the least impressive performance and result since Roy Hodgson became manager and Ray Lewington re-joined the club as his assistant.

Some will be looking at the job that the likes of Graham Potter has done on the south coast and will be asking if the Pozzo model might need to adapt as the seagulls looked more coherent and threatening under Potters longer term stewardship.

With the clock starting to run out the Hornets season we will be hoping that Roy and Ray can start to get a tune out of the team soon before we start to run out of games and the teams above us start to pick up too many points and leave us cut adrift!

Some are disappointed after a goalless draw at Turf Moor, after all both teams could have certainly dome with the three points. Others will look at the performance and the first Watford clean sheet this season that accompanied it as a very positive start.

We look at the game and the differences in organisation that Roy and Ray have bought to the Hornets training ground and look for what might be the next stages of Ovaltine revolution.

You 'Orns TV launch a new series that has been long in the planning - "The Taylor/Bassett Scale".

The idea is a simple one - Peter and a different guest discuss a former manager (other Head Coach titles are available) – their stats, their games, their highs and lows and finally decide where they might sit on the Taylor/Bassett Scale – a subjective order of greatness between GT – the father of the modern club and Dave Bassett who undid so much of his work in the late 80’s during a calamitous 6 month tenure.

We took so long getting round to this that when we were finally filming this with my first guest – Justin from Do Not Scratch Your Eyes Podcast - The Group – our first subject Ray Lewington re-joined the club! We pour over Rays time, the financial situation, the cup runs and much more. Out of respect we chose not to include a prolonged discussion on the tragic loss of Jimmy Davies but as ever during this time Ray acted with the dignity and decency that became his hallmark.

If you would like to be a guest on future episodes then please drop us a line and let us know which manager you might prefer to discuss or leave any memories of Ray’s time in the comments below.

We thought we'd take a different approach to the Boot Room in this episode and instead have a look at the individual errors that have plagued Watford's season so far.

As we look forward to three must win games (Newcastle, Burnley and Norwich), we take the opportunity to look back to 1999 to a team that looked like it was running out of steam and somehow, from somewhere find the resolved, determination and intensity to pull itself up once again and to go on and make history.

April '99 and with the season threatening to fall away Graham Taylor finds what it takes to get a group of players to push again and again and again.

The current team could do a lot worse than look for inspiration from GT, Tommy Mooney and the rest who could dig deep when it mattered most.

Fingers crossed! COYH!

After an extremely tough run of fixtures, a depleted Brentford side should have seen the Hornets impose an impressive performance on the Bees but this felt like more than a result that simply "got away from us" if Ranieri's face is anything to judge it by.

We look at the overall pattern of play, how we did or did not press the ball, how we sat deep in the second half (a rather odd strategy given our defensive frailties), the odd tactical changes and the moment that made Ranieri decide to make changes. We also ask how fit are the outfield subs when a few of them never get a run and we have two goalkeepers making up the nine on the bench - Fingers crossed for Burnley away!!!

On the face it of a match against City and Star Trek have very little in common - but we make the less than tenuous link! And no, we don't think that Ranieri is wearing red and has just beamed down to the plant surface!

The "Not so" Covid special. Filming the usual nonsense we do alongside the actual match footage has been impossible this week so we're going to get to the main event quicker. 1982 Watford are in the top three of the second tier and are pushing for promotion but with a fine underdog/giant killing reputation to protect GT sets out his team to get about the Hammers from the top division.

The always under valued Keith Pritchett makes a welcome appearance and again Luther turns out in midfield (why had my brain managed to completely forget how versatile he was - I blame his goal scoring stats for blinding me, but other excuses are available).

Sorry for the lack of videos last week - had to focus on some different things, but normal service is now resumed with a game that many people remember being their first game attending.

Drawing on the Saturday in the FA Cup meant a Tuesday replay and Watford who had built their reputation in the cups as giant killers were now an established top flight team and their to be shot at by the Saddlers - who refuse to simply "make up the numbers".

Seeing Craig Shakespeare play for the opposition long before his stint as Assistant manager and seeing old Hornet Ray Train popping up for the visitors allows you to add to what was a rollercoaster of a cup tie with replay upon replay and goal upon goal!

The Boot Room ask - vs Southampton why Watford supporters will have left Vicarage Road confused as to where the team and team work that so successfully despatched Everton disappeared to against the Saints.

We look at our pressing game - so impressive against Everton and so absent here and we look at how Southampton co-ordinate their movements to good effect and to get their best ball player on the ball in deep positions to start attacks.

We also look at Sarr's crossing and ask, whilst we find his delivery frustrating - why are we not getting more bodies into the box to get onto the end of them?

You 'Orns TV bring you the third in our Big Match of the Day Arsenal trilogy as the Hornets travel to the Emirates under Quique Sanchez Flores.

Arsenal had some top talent in Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil amongst others but Watford turned up with no small measure of talent in their side. A good early start to the season had seen Watford all but safe and a run to the quarter finals of the FA Cup would not be allowed to go by as simply "making up the numbers".

Ighalo and Deeney had transformed their promotion form to the Premier League and so Watford went with some goal power. At the back Prodl in his first season had proved a good partner to Craig Cathcart and on loan Nathan Ake was impressing in his season on loan from Chelsea.

With a midfield including Behrami, Capoue, Watson and Guedioura the Hornets were determined not to be outworked!

Second of our promised games v Arsenal sees us back at Highbury in 1987 as we come towards the end of GT's first era at the club.
