Planet: the Welsh Internationalist is an English-language magazine which has been offering a radical, independent approach to Wales and the world since 1970. We also have a website offering myriad multimedia material and extra articles (www.planetmagazine.org.uk). Planet plays a key part in Welsh cultural and political life, and has three core roles which make it unique: Firstly, bringing together

writing on Wales and the rest of the world; secondly bridging English and Welsh-speaking Welsh culture; and thirdly gathering together subjects as diverse as politics, the arts, literature, popular culture and the environment. Every issue contains fiction, poetry and an extensive book review section of the latest titles from Wales. Planet has brought the words of ground-breaking figures such as Raymond Williams, RS Thomas, George Monbiot, Chinua Achebe, Shani Rhys-James, and recently, Menna Elfyn, Jan Morris, Robert Minhinnick, Peter Lord, Tony Conran and Rachel Trezise to a new and diverse readership. Every issue also features emerging writers and artists you are likely never to have heard of. https://linktr.ee/planetmagazine

What others have said about Planet:

'Time and again the magazine has taken me upwards and outwards from the fulcrum of Wales to the furthest reaches of discussion and discovery.' - Jan Morris

'Without Planet, our world would be not only smaller and more inward-looking but also impoverished in creativity and intellectual expression.' - Menna Elfyn

'A must-read for anyone who's serious about discussing the big issues that face us as a nation' - Huw Edwards

'I was proud to win the Planet Young Essay Writers award last year with a piece that I felt passionately about' - Siôn Tomos Owen

'Planet's plain-speaking political radicalism brings insight but also courage for a difficult road' - Stevie Davies

'I've learned so much from Planet over the years about the organic connection between culture, politics and democracy.' - Francesca Rhydderch

'While the English-language media in Wales continues to waste away at an alarming rate, and fails to put Wales in focus, current affairs magazines like Planet aren't just an optional extra – they're absolutely vital.'
Owen Donovan, blogger at oggy bloggy ogwr

'Planet supplies a vital space for in-depth coverage and discussion of culture and politics, managing to balance its focus on Wales with a commitment to representing Wales in the wider world.' - Rhian E. Jones, author of 'Clampdown: Pop-Cultural Wars on Class and Gender', blogger at Velvet Coalmine

A huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to our crowdfunder - your support & solidarity has been so heartening in a difficult time.

We'll now be able to provide redundancy payments to our staff, and while we will be ceasing trading we will be going dormant rather than needing to go into debt and wind up the company, thereby being able to preserve our legacy & retain our intellectual property rights, which would make a future relaunch more feasible if more favourable funding conditions emerge.

Huge thanks to all who've contributed to our crowdfunder.

If we reach £10,000 this will relieve pressure to raise 💷elsewhere for redundancy pay, avoiding debt & enabling the company to go dormant - thereby making a future re-launch more feasible.

"In small yet indispensible ways our periodicals collage together a collective conscience."

To mark the final issue, following a BCW decision to stop our grant, our editor outlines the troubling story of how this has come about, & why such periodicals are so vital, in a wider context of neoliberal Wales & the open letter campaign to save magazines.
