Tonight I have swapped my slippers for high heels and my jeans for an elegant gown as I have been invited to attend the Business Book Awards. Editors don’t usually win any prizes, because we are like the swans legs paddling underwater, working in the background to make producing excellent books a seamless process. But I feel like I have won a prize already because a book I worked on for has been shortlisted! Fingers crossed for Dr Graham Ford’s Total Environment Masterplan!

I work on the production or editing of hundreds of titles but it is very rare that I actually get to see the final printed book. On occasion when I do get the chance, there is a real sense of achievement. This book by top DJ, Phil Morse, Digital DJ Tips published by Rethink Press Limited was a pleasure to work on every step of the way and turned out looking fantastic!

As a total word nerd myself, I absolutely loved Susie Dent’s talk ‘The Secret Life of Words’ at the Old Market yesterday. I learned that the Old English word for ‘intestines’ was ‘arseropes’ and another useful 16th century term ‘mumpsimus’, which describes an individual who insists they are right, despite clear evidence they are not.
