Our bootcamps for educators & media workers were a huge success! 🇧🇧🇬🇾🇯🇲🇹🇹

Over the course of June, we hosted a series of bootcamps as part of our UNESCO-funded “Building the Next Generation of Media Literate Citizens” project. Together with our 50+ participants, we worked hard towards advancing in the Caribbean 💪

💭 “We were truly pleased by the diverse range of backgrounds represented in both our media professionals and educators,” explained Desilon Daniels, Project & Advocacy Coordinator at the Public Media Alliance. “For our media professionals, we had reporters, programming coordinators, media owners, and even a library services worker, while our educators spanned 26 schools – both at the primary and secondary school levels – and covered subjects such as English and Mathematics to Chemistry, Economics, and Caribbean Studies.”

Did you know we'd be hosting another round of training for media workers in October? 👀 If you'd like a peek into the programme, check out our recent report ⤵️

Public Media Alliance will today begin the first of its online Media Literacy Bootcamps for Caribbean media professionals.

💭 "The idea is to privatize public audiovisual but to keep both RFI and France 24 because they represent France abroad, France Info which is an information channel and France Bleu radio stations which are local radio stations." – Damien Soumi, National Rally candidate in the Somme.

🇨🇭 has welcomed the Federal Council's rejection of the halving initiative.

💭 "Acceptance of the halving initiative would roughly halve the SRG’s financial resources. With such a greatly reduced budget, the SRG would no longer be able to finance itself in its current decentralised structure and the diversity of its offerings. This would be a hard blow for the Swiss film, music, culture and sports industries."

However, as a countermeasure, the Federal Council has decided to gradually reduce the media tax for households to 300 francs by 2029.

🇨🇦 With indicators suggesting that public trust in CBC/Radio-Canada is declining, the broadcaster’s Policy and International Relations Director, Jon Medline explains the various initiatives they are embarking on to address and resolve the problem.

💭 "At the end of the day, as champions of the highest-quality journalism, universal service, and democratic processes, we just can’t have it. Eroding trust levels not only alienate segments of existing and potential audiences, they also threaten key sources of funding. Public service media need the support of various constituents — and loss of faith threatens underlying financial supports. That ultimately means fewer journalists, reduced coverage, and challenges across our entire operations, including non-news and cultural content."

Our Story

The Public Media Alliance is the largest global association of public service broadcasters. Our members are the organisations that communicate daily and free of charge through TV, radio and online with the 2.5 billion citizens living in the 54 countries that our members serve.

Since our origination as the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association in 1945, the media landscape – and the world – have changed rapidly, and beyond recognition. We exist to support, improve and protect public service media around the world, providing a resource for our members to share and gain up-to-date skills and knowledge.

The Public Media Alliance provides a global context for public service broadcasters as they transition in the digital era.

Our vision is a world where the public can continue to access free, independent, engaging and representative national and international media wherever they are – urban or rural, in rich or poor countries and via old or new technologies.
