The train that started my life in railways! In 1935 when the silver/grey streamline service first began between Kings Cross and Newcastle, my father aged just 13 was asked by his aunt and uncle if he'd like to see the first train passing Bawtry viaduct heading north. It had been widely publicised in advance by the LNER. As this "silver streak" passed over the viaduct at speed my father was a railway fanatic from that moment on! It must have been like watching a space launch at the time! He brought me up to love trains and, in particular, steam .... and even more so, the LNER A4 pacifics.
