A Fellow of The Institute Of Horticulture and Founder of The Association of Professional Landscapers, Alan's career spans more than four decades. Starting out in 1968, he steadily built a landscape business, gaining experience by working on a wide range of projects, until, in 1982, he won a British Association of Landscape Industries Award for the Best Domestic Garden Scheme (designed by Robin Wil
liams) and continued winning many awards over the years, including more than sixty Royal Horticultural Society medals at Chelsea, Hampton Court, Tatton Park and Gardeners World Live, initially as Project Manager and Constructor, and increasingly as Designer as well as builder. Past Regional Chairman of The British Association of Landscape Industries, then National Council Member and Chairman of PR and Marketing, Member of The Institute of Groundsmanship, Institute of Leisure and Amenity Management, Garden Writers Guild, Traditional Paving Development Group, RHS Show Gardens Assessor and Judge and Chelsea Show Gardens Panellist, Alan is a Honorary Life Member of The Association of Professional Landscapers and Member of The Professional Gardeners Guild. As time went by, he became particularly interested in Specialist works, including Topiary and Natural Stoneworks, paving and walling using traditional methods. His work includes Arbitration and Expert Witness, preferring to arbitrate than spend money on litigation. Always interested in Training, Alan offers a dedicated service to owners of properties requiring staff training, usually at senior level. Having spent many years constructing gardens, mainly in the private sector, he became Head Gardener at Goodwood Estate between 2001 and 2007, achieving a lifelong ambition to be part of an Historic Garden, by restoring the Private gardens over that period. His latest book, 'The Head Gardener's Survival Manual', is now available via the following link: http://www.alansargent.co.uk/manual.html
