Thanks to the INVADERS ... we have had Scarlet Fever return, the return of whoopung Cough, and TB, and many other diseases long eradicated ... and, now for the latest, courtesy of those oh so charming INVADERS ... SCABIES!... yes, SCABIES!
Scabies is a contagious skin condition caused by microscopic mites burrowing into the skin:
Symptoms
Intense itching, especially at night, and a pimple-like rash. The rash may appear as tiny red spots. Burrow marks, which are short, wavy, silver-colored lines on the skin, can also be found.
Transmission
Scabies is spread by direct, prolonged skin-to-skin contact with an infected person.
Treatment
A pharmacist can recommend a cream or lotion to apply over the entire body. The treatment will need to be repeated after one week.
Risk factors
Scabies is a significant health concern in many developing countries. It's estimated to affect more than 200 million people at any time and more than 400 million people every year.
Complications
Scabies can lead to skin sores and serious complications like septicaemia (a bloodstream infection), heart disease, and kidney problems.
Scabies mites prefer to burrow in certain parts of the body, including the hands, arms, buttocks, belt line, p***s, and skin around the ni***es. In young children and the elderly, lesions may also be present on the palms, soles, and scalp.
