Ernest Journal Ernest is a blog, iPad magazine and biannual printed journal for curious and adventurous gentlefolk. It is for people who like to whittle.

It is a guide for those who appreciate true craftsmanship and
the care that goes into making, who are fascinated by curious histories and eccentric traditions and who care more for timeless style than trends. It is a periodical of substance created for folk who love to build fires, embark on road trips, camp under a canopy of stars and run full pelt into the sea. Ernest appeals to those of us who

appreciate a craft gin cocktail as much as a hearty one-pot supper, who love the grain of wood and the smell of paper, who’d like to learn how to fly fish, brew beer in their shed and name all the constellations of the northern hemisphere. Ernest Journal is brought to you by a talented troupe who love tactile design, show-stopping photography and slow journalism.

It's not often we show the creative team behind Ernest and so – now we're in the final week of our Collector's Edition crowdfunding campaign – we wanted to say hello personally and share what Ernest means to us.

As the Collector’s Edition crowdfunding campaign nears its final week, editor and founder Jo Tinsley, art director Tina Hobson and deputy editor Abi Whyte share their memories of how the journal began, what Ernest means to them and why they feel it should continue to exist in the world. Photos a

"What did I do today that I am or should be proud of? Was my response to x/y/z reasonable or fair and if not, why not and how could it be better next time? What are my regular habits that I know aren’t positively serving me? What do I do sometimes that I know I would benefit from doing more?"

For Rupert Marlow of Wilder., journalling is about regular self-reflection and subtle change, and is a process that seems to work best on paper. Read more about the slow practice of journalling on our blog:

Rupert has kindly donated 21 gift sets to our Collector's Edition crowdfunding campaign, comprising three pocket notebooks, one A5 notebook and a Wilder. pencil. You can pick up one of these sets on our campaign page (link above) or browse the entire collection in the Wilder. store.

Our crowdfunding campaign is now live!

We are raising money to reprint issue one of Ernest, which sold out seven years ago. It's a special Collector's Edition with a subtle matte silver foil on the cover, no advertising and an extra 8-page feature celebrating seven years of publishing Ernest.

We will keep everything else just as it should be, so you can look forward to stories about nautical slang, recipes from the Antarctic, a history of forks, the remarkable life of Nikola Tesla, sea monsters of the northern seas, the bizarre tale of plumber turned mystic Dr Lobsang Rampa, a history of backpacks, slow coffee, wild beer and an epic journey from the heart of Iceland to the North Atlantic.
