Harbourside and Town ward has a by-election on Thursday to replace the much loved Labour councillor Alan Durant, who sadly passed away.

Tynan is an excellent candidate with a bold, positive vision to re-energise our town based on collaboration, wise investment and transparency.

Please like and share with your friends and family in Town who have the same pride and passion to bring back Gosport's glory days.

Faulty Streetlights

With the nights closing in it is important our streets are made as safe as possible.

On a 2 hour walk I found 56 streetlights that were not on at 8pm.

Please check:

You can report faults to Hampshire County Council yourself here: https://www.lightsoninhampshire.co.uk/Public/ReportFault.aspx

But some roads are managed by private land owners such as housing associations. They need to be contacted separately.

Feel free to send precise map coordinates and a photo and I can try to maintain a list to hold those responsible to account.

Also remember that some lights are turned off between 1-4am. There may be other reasons a streetlight is off. But if you feel an area is dangerously dark GBC can take action to make it safe.

Results and Ongoing - further piecemeal repairs at Griffin Walk play area, this time to the zip line. I spoke to officers today. There are plans to replace the other equipment that was removed. I will post the timeframes when they are provided.

An honour to participate in today's Remembrance Service at Gosport War Memorial, to honour those past and present who have sacrificed for our future.

Very proud of all the Gosport Scout groups representing our area. Great to see so many young people participating in this important event.

Many residents asked about glass and better plastic recycling. Much of this depends on Hampshire County Council and the processing facilities that are available from them as the Disposal Authority.

Is your home on a heat network?

Heat networks (sometimes called 'district' or 'communal' heating) are a way of heating blocks of flats or groups of homes.

Have you seen large increases in your energy bills, are you struggling with affordability, or have you been subject to unrealistic repayment plans?

Citizen's Advice want to identify housing estates, apartment blocks and flats around the UK about your experiences.

Find out what a heat network is and check what to do if you have problems with your heat network supplier.

I too am disappointed with the talking down Gosport has been getting from the national press. Even worse is that these stories are backed up by quotes and comments from high profile local Tories who are the very ones who should have been making things better for the past 14 years.

The Grange and Alver Valley ward has particular challenges regarding transport, and I am fighting on several fronts including:
🚌bus routes
🦽safe paths
🚲cycle ways
🚗parking
🦓crossings
💡street lighting

However, Hampshire County Council have now released a survey asking for your help to identify issues with accessibility and connectivity for walking and cycling.

Please give them your view here, and then let me know what you think:

Last night there was a police call out, and residents have reported an increase in disturbances over the last few weeks. Many thanks to Gosport Police for their swift response.

Having spoken to the young people, many involved have come over from the town centre because of the increased police presence there. This is in no small part due to the initiative. I think we all welcome the firm action on serious organised criminal activity HOWEVER I have raised the effect the displaced crime is having on our area.

PLEASE continue to report incidents to 101 by phone or online. It does get logged. If you cannot do it yourself then contact me and I can do it on your behalf.

This is not ‘just’ antisocial behaviour. It is criminal. It is dangerous. It is threatening and intimidating. We do not have to put up with it. But it will only become a priority if there is abundant evidence in the 101 database. So please report it every. Single. Time.

I will continue to fight for more activities for our young people. The vast majority stay out of trouble and deserve opportunities to broaden their horizons. If the only option they have is to hang out in a car park at night then we cannot be surprised when they get drawn into mischief. My work on this with partner organisations is ongoing and I hope to provide updates soon.
