We have recently had a number of conversations with potential clients, who (before our conversation really got going) seemed to think that using social media alone, to promote your business or services was what "marketing" was.
Whilst social media is definitely a channel (and used correctly a powerful and effect marketing tool), it is not a standalone solution to all your lead generation woes.....wouldn't it be great if only it was that straightforward!?
Marketing is every touchpoint your potential client experiences, these include, but are in no way limited to:
👋 How you, your employees and business present themselves (in person and online)
👋 How your marketing message resonates with them (here think benefits more often than features)
👋 How your marketing appears to them....is the branding and messaging consistent
👋 How your brand ambassadors talk about you or fingers crossed shout about you from the roof tops (okay, maybe not quite that enthusiastically, but think testimonials, reviews and referrals)
👋 How working with your business makes them feel.
All of the above should be built on a strategy and a foundation, that looks at everything with your potential and existing clients at the very heart of it, and then comes the fun stuff.... Review, Revise, Retry.

We're really pleased to have hired our first employee!! Beth is working with us four days a week and helps us make the magic happen! ✨
It's crazy to think that we're already taking such big steps & further building our business, considering where we were this time last year!

Last week we were asked if we knew what the secret 🤫 to marketing was and if so, would we share it? We are always surprised when this comes up and always happy to share...
The secret to marketing is nothing other than keeping your client at the heart ❤️ of everything you do. From random interactions to more targeted campaigns, everything needs to be viewed how the audience, clients and potential clients will see it and what benefit it will bring to them and what action or response that will illicit from them in terms of YOUR brand.
Too often a lot of marketing is supplier centric and ultimately the target audience is not invested in that. They simply want to know how YOU can help them, and more often than not (obviously there are exceptions) NOT the process behind helping them.
Social media is often a vanity channel, how many likes did we get or did we go viral? At the end of the day it is always quality over quantity....after all if you are the worlds best bakery, but only supply within a 10 mile radius, going viral and having your name known on the other side of the world 🌍 is highly unlikely to impact YOUR bottom line in a meaningful way.
So yes, in our opinion the answer to what is the secret of marketing = putting YOUR customer at the heart of everything YOU do.

So the start of a new month, but in some ways also the end of an era. March 2012 Social Media Solutions was established and now 10 years later changes are in the offing.
It's all very exciting and is the result following our response to the last few years from when lock down hit, but it is also exceptionally hard work, as well as a lot of fun and laughter with our business partner Ellan Campbell-Swann and the realisation what an amazing network of people we have both surrounded ourselves with in the last decade.
We will keep you updated and tweaks are coming to our social media profiles as well as a lovely shiny new website and a whole raft of services including but in no way limited to the social media, PR, marketing and events Ellan and we have always offered - but all served with a twist!
