Think you can’t measure the ROI on your marketing? Maybe it’s time to think again…

When it comes to marketing, traditional or digital, we often hear that people think of it as a “Black Art” or have been told you can’t really track results. Whilst you might not be able to track it 100%, there are a number of things you can do to measure your ROI and ensure that you aren’t spending time and money on marketing that simply isn’t delivering the results you need.

Over the years I have increasingly become an analytics geek. At first, I was almost apologetic, but as the years have gone on, I have embraced this part of my business persona. If you do not know what your marketing efforts are truly delivering, how will you know where to invest your marketing budget?

Here are three simple methods that you can use to measure what is working when it comes to your marketing strategy:

Branding Yourself Vs Branding Your Business

Branding can often feel like a minefield. So much pressure, so much to consider, where do you even begin? Plus, when you’re finally happy with the hundreds of decisions you’ve had to make, you then have to stand by those decisions for years to come. After all, you can’t have a yearly rebrand launch…Can you?

Okay, now we have your mind fizzing with more questions than answers, let’s strip it back to basics and take it from there. What’s the difference between personal branding and branding your business?

Personal branding involves creating a name for yourself which represents your name, face, expertise and experiences.

Branding your business involves creating a stand-alone brand which may share the same values as you, but isn’t defined by them. Business branding will include a separate company name, values and offering.

There are pros and cons to both options, but it’s important to have weighed them all up before making any decisions....

Thinking of cutting your marketing budget? BIG mistake……HUGE!

Last summer, in response to the energy price hikes, cost of living crisis and increasing inflation that were threatening to send the country hurtling into a recession, the UK Government was encouraging brands to reduce their marketing spend and focus instead on lowering their prices. They appeared to not understand that lowering prices tends to lead to a price war that can collapse entire industries, which is not great for economic growth.

In response to the Government’s “advice”, Marketing Week (along with several others) accused the Government of “demonising” the marketing industry, pointing out, quite rightly, that this was bullsh*t and no way to promote growth.

Incidentally, this was the same Government that, over the preceding three-year period, had reportedly spent around £1bn on marketing their election campaigns.

We all worry about the effects of a recession, and business owners are keener than ever to find ways to ride the current storm. Sadly, some businesses do fall into the trap of viewing marketing as a non-essential cost, and this is the first budget they cut.

BIG mistake……HUGE!

But before you point out that, of course, I would say this because Re:VAMP Marketing Ltd is, err, a marketing company, please allow me to explain.

Your customers may be tightening their belts, resulting in decreasing revenue for you at the same time as your costs are increasing. When the money coming in is less than the money going out, cutting your marketing spend might feel sensible in the short-term, but it will hurt your business in the long term. Your marketing budget is an investment. It is at times like these that you need to promote your business by building relationships to keep your customers invested in your success. This will be tough if you’re not investing in your marketing strategy, because a successful strategy strengthens your relationship with your audience. Without a solid strategy, you’ll lose momentum; momentum that has taken time and effort to build. Your brand value will be lost, along with the trust of your best brand ambassadors (your customers)....

Does getting coverage for a good deed negate the good? 🤷‍♀️

People often ask us whether gaining PR for a good deed will have a negative impact rather than a positive one!

We don’t believe so.
If your business has donated laptops to a local cause, shared your time to help a charity or made a difference to someone, this is a selfless act. If someone is willing to share that good deed, there’s no harm in sharing some good news for once!

As long as your business isn’t ‘doing good’ for exposure, and the PR comes organically, share away!
We need more good news in the world, so don’t be afraid to share yours. It may just inspire someone else to do good too! 🌎

Earlier this month Google celebrated its 25th birthday!

We can't believe Google has been around for less than thirty years, we can hardly remember what we did without it. 🤯

💡The search engine has developed so much in that time, and the world of rankings and authority is ever-evolving. There are over 2.5 trillion Google searches per year worldwide with Google holding over 92% market share.

Who's used Google more than once already today? 🤷‍♀️

If you haven't already, start planning for Christmas now...

Tomorrow there's just 100 days until Christmas 🤯

With any element of marketing, it's all in the preparation. The further out you can plan, the easier it is to keep up momentum.

The festive season is a funny one for businesses. For some it's the busiest time of year, and for others, work slows, ready to hit the ground running in January.

If you're interested to know how planning ahead can help save you time and make you money, why not give us a call?

There's less than 48 hours until Pamela takes on the Thames Pathway Challenge!

Pamela is walking on behalf of Re:VAMP Marketing to raise money for the wonderful Trust Leeds.

The challenge will see Pamela walk 50km across London, on what is set to be the hottest day of the year 😅 Everything just got much more real as Liza Kellett came and very kindly provided Pamela with the ReVAMP X Trust Leeds T-shirts & caps so she'll look the part as she journeys through London.

If you'd like to spur her on and donate, you can do so via the JustGiving link in the comments 👇

Marketing v Sales.....the eternal struggle between two key parts of your business. Where does one end and the other begin?

There is a common perception that marketing = sales, but depending on what you are "selling" this is often not the case. Marketing, when done correctly, is key 🔑 in...

✅Raising brand awareness
✅Engaging your target audience
✅Creating engagement

However, if your marketing is doing the above and taking your audience to the next step e.g. a website, e-commerce shop or phone call and your audience does not like what they see or hear, they will disengage.

The best way to look at this is when getting people in to a shop 🛍 getting them in = 📢 marketing, getting them to buy = 💳 sales.

The two aspects need to work hand in hand, and it is essential that businesses understand what is happening, check their analytics, understand at what point potential clients disengage and what is attracting them.

Often it is difficult for businesses to step back and look at their offer with the same eyes 👀 that a prospective customer will view it through. If the benefits and product or service have successfully been communicated through the marketing, but the sales process does not connect with the potential purchaser they will and often do vote with their feet.

Always happy to have a no obligation chat about all things marketing over a coffee ☕ just get in touch :-)

In our latest blog, Pamela discusses LinkedIn culture.

Pam has been on the platform for almost 13 years now, as she joined on the 20th September 2010, so she has plenty of user experience.

Over the years the platform has changed exponentially, with online spats having reduced massively and the value, be it knowledge, connections or income gained from it has increased tenfold.

So, check out Pam's perspective on LinkedIn etiquette here. 👇

Okay, in the interest of full disclosure, I am a huge fan of LinkedIn. Over the years it has been a true companion in my business ‘journey’ (excuse the X Factor-ism). As time has passed, it has changed in its appearance, but haven’t we all? Overall, LinkedIn has been a consistent source of inf...

About Us...

Social Media Solutions is a Yorkshire based company specialising in social media training, consultancy and management services. Since LinkedIn was launched in 2003 and Mark Zuckerberg first founded Facebook in 2004 the world of social media has taken the marketing world by storm. We have witnessed huge changes in terms of functionality across the various platforms together with the good and bad that comes with using social media for businesses.

It can be challenging for individuals and business to keep up to date with the changes and ensure that the time spent on the platforms results in a good return on investment, after all the platforms are free to use, but YOUR TIME is not.

The management of social media accounts is not regulated and unfortunately there are a lot of examples of bad practice that clients often are unaware of until it is too late.

Our focus is one of helping individuals understand how to use the right social media platform for their business and should they choose to outsource the management of their accounts, to understand what they are giving someone else to do and how to ensure they protect their accounts and their brands when others have access to them.
