Throwback to this time last week when the Local Hero 40 Committee of Pennan welcomed members of the cast back for a wonderful Champagne Reception and local art auction to celebrate the film's 40th anniversary!

A fantastic (and emotional) time had by all!

Jimmy Yuill, Sandra Voe, Jonathan Watson and Tam Dean Burn unveiled a commemorative plaque together for Pennan Village Hall and spent time sharing memories with members of the local community!

Our big screen is here at The Sail Loft Bunkhouse Portsoy showing films all day!

We have Whisky Galore! on at 5pm and Local Hero on at 7pm as well as pizzas from Coastal Pizza and top grub from Sarah’s Burger Shack

Tickets available on site, cash and card as well as a stocked bar!

We are so privileged to have personal introductions to our Local Hero screenings from Peter Riegert (Mac) and Lord Puttnam (producer) - both sharing fond memories of making the film and the enduring power of cinema 💕👏🏻

Our big screen is up! THANK YOU BANFF for coming and sharing the joy of cinema with us 💕

Film is meant to be enjoyed with others on a big screen, as a shared community experience and what better film than Local Hero in it's 40th year!!

We're back tomorrow at Banff Castle from 10.30 (doors) with a day of Scottish films, documentaries and shorts all day and Local Hero at 7pm, and at Portsoy The Sail Loft Bunkhouse Portsoy on Sunday 28th May!

We're delighted to announce a late addition to our Local Hero cast Meet & Greet event this afternoon: Jennifer Black (via zoom)

Jennifer played Stella Urquhart in the film and has gone on to a long career in TV and theatre including Rebus, Taggart, Succession and in Therese Raquin on the stage.

Members of the cast of Local Hero talking pupils at Fraserburgh Academy and Banff Academy about making the film and working in the screen industry 👏🏻

Tam Dean Burn advised them that even if you enter the industry in an unconventional way, there is a path for you. You don't have to have gone to the "right school" or take a "sensible route" if you feel the passion in your gut, go for it and follow it.

Jimmy Yuill's advice was to find one person you trust and share your creative ideas with them, whatever that idea is, get feedback, share your creative thoughts - it only takes one person to believe in you for a career to start.

Sandra told the students to "BE BOLD!"

A phone box reunion! Local Hero cast members Jimmy Yuill, Tam Dean Burn, and Jonathan Watson make a call at the Pennan phone box - 40 years after they starred in the film and all first worked together.

We'll be sharing photos of their reunion and memories across the next few days as we kick off our long weekend of outdoor screenings and events to celebrate 40 years of Local Hero!

There are still spaces for our free cast Meet and Greet today, 26 May, 2 pm at Banff Springs Hotel - a chance to meet the cast and ask them questions, alongside actors Sandra Voe and - via zoom - Peter Riegert and Jennifer Black!

THIS WEEKEND we bring the big outdoor screen up to Banff and Portsoy!!! 🎉 3 days of great films, including Local Hero, Gregory's Girl, Whisky Galore! and cool Scottish documentaries Ride The Wave, and The Oil Machine alongside family favourite animated movies!

AND we've got some of the Local Hero cast together for a meet and greet Q&A, alongside author Jon Melville who'll be signing copies of his book Local Hero: Making a Scottish Classic.

We're very excited to come up and enjoy the beautiful Aberdeenshire coast and share wonderful films with the local community.

Remember: Pack a rain jacket or brolly, just in case! And bring your own folding chairs / blankets etc as seating will be very limited.
