ADD A NOTE TO YOUR CONNECTION REQUESTS
Adding a note to a LinkedIn connection request is a bit like walking into a room and saying "hello" with a smile, instead of just waltzing in and staring at everyone. It's a small touch, but it makes a world of difference. Here's why:

BITWARDEN: THE TOWER OF LONDON OF PASSWORD MANAGEMENT TOOLS

How many times have you clicked the dreaded 'Forgot Password' link this month? Or does the horror of losing access to your social accounts keep you up at night?

Like most solo entrepreneurs, we are often juggling multiple accounts, too many to count.

That's where Bitwarden comes in to save the day — and keep those fears at bay.

I don't know about you, but when I meet people for the first time I generally say "hello, I'm Debbie" I almost never say "hello, I'm The Chichester Social".

I'm really quite out there aren't I 👀

But I'm making a serious point and you can make a very simple change to your Instagram bio (or any of your business social channel bios) to ensure that your name is right there, front and centre.

So here's your Instagram tips to Edit Your Profile:

1) Make your name and username different to increase opportunities for discovery in search
2) Your name isn't limited to one word—you've got a 30-character cap, so this could work as a boost to the 150-character limit in the bio field. Think about keywords here or even something interesting/memorable.

So the next time someone wants to strike up a conversation, they can say your name. Your actual name.

That's nice, isn't it.

PS let me know if you change yours, I'll say "hi"!

Very proud to see photos of one of my clients Dr Eilis Collins (DBA) speaking at the conference in Athens last month.

From her draft, I created the slidedeck in her brand style. This is what she had to say about it: 'You have done such an amazing job!'

Peace, Love, Hope ... 🕊

Thanks to the fab team at BrightWord PR , I was invited to attend the launch event of the Peace Doves art installation at Chichester Cathedral on Saturday evening — on now through to 12 November.

It was beautiful. It was peaceful and altogether quite mesmerising.

15,000 individually handmade paper doves, suspended above the cathedral Nave. Each dove contains a message of peace, love and hope, written by local community groups, schools and members of the public. It's the work of sculptor and artist, Peter Walker.

I chatted with Bake Off finalist Miranda Gore Browne and Clare Davies of and Bird, a very talented floral paper artist. And Alex Stanhope was there too, camera in hand, capturing the magic.

They have a number of evening sessions, which I would highly recommend for a bit more atmosphere.

This is just one of many interesting events the Cathedral has coming up this season, including storytelling for children, HomeTech Digital Inclusions workshops and they're even hosting two 90s music Silent Discos!

I'm a chronic over worker; I wear my "so busy" badge with misplaced pride.

I fill my days, weeks and months with my clients (The Chichester Social) charity director responsibilities (Chichester Cinema at New Park) and freelancer network (Last Friday Club - Chichester).

Always so bloody, bloody busy 👀 I needed a break. So I took one. And I really did! I informed everyone who needed to know in advance, my out of office message reiterated that I was doing nowt for a week and (critically) I switched off notifications! I know, what a goddamn hero.

Since starting my business 7+ years ago, I've rarely taken a proper, zero work, break — I've always popped in to check X, Y, Z like an idiot 🤦‍♀️

It reminded me (kinda) of the Chicken Licken story — one of hysteria and paranoia. August has often felt like a mass shutdown, but perhaps I had taken my foot off the pedal a tad too, a self-fulfilling prophecy, clearly.

I'd been pecking away at my to-do list like there's no tomorrow, when all I needed was a staycation in the coop. I didn't go anywhere or do much (except drink all of the gin on my birthday last Friday, hic!) 🥳

So here I am, back in the fold — and the sky didn't fall in.

→ I think I've gained some PERSPECTIVE - escaped the comparisonitis, it's not a cliche to remind yourself that we all have our own path to follow
→ A chance to think freely and more CREATIVELY - something I thrive on, it's my flow for sure (thank you Emily Perry)
→I lazed about, watched a lot of content, and didn't give myself s**t about focusing on DOWNTIME
→ I know it's going to be a PRODUCTIVE month - new client projects and campaigns launching; a new phase for the cinema; growing the Last Friday Club network
→ Taking this break will be better for my COMMUNITY too - a win:win all round

So next time you feel like Chicken Licken, scrambling around thinking the sky is falling, remember it might just be an acorn. Maybe what you really need is to nest up with a good (or trashy) boxset or take a walk around the farmyard. 🐔

I'll admit it, I'm an embracer! People, dogs, new tech I'm hugging all of it.

I first started mucking about with AI (OpenAI aka ChatGPT) a year or so ago — I hadn't the first clue what I was doing or how it could help me.

So I carried on mucking about with it. Testing stuff out, binning it, trying another prompt, binning it, another prompt, editing it ... until I finally figured out some of the best ways that it could help me and my clients with their content ideation and social media marketing.

AI is my ideas guy and my master summariser.

💡For ideas — it helps me when I feel like I'm running around in circles and getting nowhere — it shows me an alternative path to take.

📄 For summarising — this is where he saves me a heap of time. I work with organisations where government white papers are their jam; but ain't nobody got time to read all of that and if it's a particularly specialist area like the housing crisis or the levelling up agenda, it sends me cross-eyed.

So I feed the beast the text and ask him for the top XYZ critical takeaways, I tell him why I need it (e.g. a post on LinkedIn from such and such an organisation) and my audience is XYZ who care about XYZ. The good stuff happens when you give him content and specifics — that's the skill us humans bring to the table.

et voila, I have something that's got me 90% there. I still have to review, edit and ensure it's accurate and on voice; but to go from zero to hero is a good feeling.

If you fancy a sit down with me for an hour in RUME2 to see how you can work a little smarter and get comfortable with AI, I'm here for ya.

HELLO, I'M DEBBIE ... who am I, how can I help you and why do I exist?

I started my own business, The Chichester Social, when I was 45 ... I know, I barely look a day over 👀

I love where I live (the city, the beaches, the walks) and I couldn't do what I do without the fab people around me, both personally and professionally.

I don't own a car - I'm mad about dogs - I'm a bit scared of horses.

Inbetween running Chichester's finest monthly networking meet-up Last Friday Club - Chichester (with Emily Perry Coaching at Rume2) and being chair of the board at Chichester Cinema at New Park I've managed to run a one-woman solo enterprise pretty darn successfully.

My drive and motivation comes from being creative, big-picture thinking, communicating with and inspiring founders and their teams to embrace social media — and all that it can do for their business.

But what does that practically mean and what services do I offer 👇

Right, said Thread ... zero 🔥 takes here, just sharing my experiences personally and for a couple of clients these past 6 days!

➡️ We are all basically beta testers right now, but I've enjoyed frolicking about in its green lush land.

How have I used it so far?
🥱 personally, I've shared similar stuff that I'd bore people with on Twitter
🖼 an artist client: her long panoramic work has worked well chopped up to form a beautiful, seamless carousel. She always found Instagram a bit limited in this regard.
🎬 independent cinema client: funny, engagement type content "most annoying things in movies" has been a *hit*, people love to tell you what annoys them!
🔗 both LOVE that you can add clickable links!

💋 K.I.S.S
Don't overthink it, the simplicity is what is making feel less of a drudge compared to the function-bursting other channels. Go with it, get a feel for what others are saying and doing, you'll probably discover new connections quite readily too as the algorithm is far from seasoned and fully formed.

Things we are told are coming/under consideration:
🕰 chronological feed
𝌘 following feed
✍️ edit feature
🔎 improved search

What's holding some people back?
❌ you can't delete your Threads account without deleting the Instagram account that it's linked to, however you can DEACTIVATE ie hide your Threads account

👏 As an OG Twitter peep, getting onboard with Threads has been breezy and familiar

I HEART YOU Emily! You are totally part of my pack 🐾

I've know Emily for a good *few* years now, but it wasn't until I started my business The Chichester Social (SEVEN YEARS AGO 😱) that we really became BFFs, so much so that we decided to start a free and totally EPIC networking group together — Last Friday Club - Chichester, it's purpose simply being to bring freelancers and solo entrepreneurs together to share the fizz and friendship of community and collaborative working.

Emily is a sounding board, a cheerleader, a positive and practical critic — and an inspiration. She doesn't fear change (well, that's how it seems on the outside!) — she's never afraid to take the leap or take a leap of faith.

Thank you for the walks, the pool lengths, the fashion chat and dog memes. Raising a virtual glass to you and our great pack. 🥂

PS she's also a fantastic coach and business mentor, go check her out on LinkedIn, where she totally rocks: https://www.linkedin.com/in/emilyperry-people/

I've been trialling a "cool tool" over the past couple of weeks called Fathom (fathom.video)

In short, it connects to Zoom and uses AI technology to provide a simple transcription of your call. It has far more whizzy functionality providing highlights, excerpts and video snippets from your call too.

For me, capturing the essentials from client calls has been an absolute dream. On sharing notes from a call this morning, a client commented:

'Wow Debbie, this is impressive. I wouldn't ever say that this was produced by AI. Have you edited it or not at all?'

- In truth, I edited two words that were mis-transcribed and took out a sentence at the end that was irrelevant. That's it!

Fathom's strapline is "never take notes on a Zoom call again"
Job done, I'd say! Give it whirl ✅ fathom.video

I used to scroll and scroll and scroll until my fingers bled to find inspiration for my next social media post. And guess what, it never *really* helped, it often left me feeling empty and positively uninspired.

🥳 Last year I took The Two Lauras' fab "Social PRF" programme.

Now I know how to:

✅ Get new eyes on mine and my clients' business
✅ Create content that helps mine and my clients' audience (YOU!)
✅ Get leads that make sales through my social media content
✅ All without wasting a hot damn minute on the mindless scroll

Anyhoo, they’ve just opened enrolment for their next cohort, and if you are in the business of creating social media content (who isn't) then you absolutely should sign up — you and your business totally deserve this investment.

Hi, I’m Debbie 👋
“Are you struggling to feel heard or lack the confidence to promote your business on social media?”

YES? Then I am the social media coach you’ve been looking for. 🎉

I have decades (😱) of experience in marketing, communications and change management. I help business owners feel confident about talking to their customers via social media with a particular focus on LinkedIn aka the forgotten (ignored!) platform. I'm on a mission to make everyone fall in 💙 with LinkedIn.

My specialism is LinkedIn for individuals and teams, but I work across Google My Business, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook too.

My SuperHelpful™️ approach delivers exactly what you need in a way that ensures that your marketing efforts are fruitful, not fruitless. 🍑

When I'm not doing all of that, I'm proud to be chair of the board at Cinema at New Park — I've been working with them for over a decade! I also run a relaxed business networking group with my bestie Emily Perry - Last Friday Club - Chichester (we meet monthly at )

To relax I like to walk — a lot. I could mention the running and gym here too, but being a member of clubs doesn't mean I'm doing this as often as I ought to! 🤪

If any of this is interesting, say HI! 👋

Or DM if you *think* I could help you and your business grow on social.

Running a business solo can be great and it can sometimes be lonely ... but what makes it even greater is getting together with others in the same boat and going out for what we gals call a "Works Do".

Basically, we shut up shop early on a Friday and go for long lunch filled with a lot of bloody laughter, catch up on the goss and spill the tea (but never the fizz!)

Here's me and my Works Do collective: Tan of NOSH Snacks Emily of The People Consultancy, Shazia aka Shazia Mahmood Paintings and me, of The Chichester Social - Santa only shows up for the December lunch.

So, fair warning fine people of Chichester and especially the brilliant team at Brasserie Blanc, Chichester we're coming for ya this afternoon!

23/02/2023

One reason why you might not be getting the engagement you feel that your efforts deserve is because what you are posting isn't helpful or adding value by solving problems — but instead it's all about YOU! 😱

Donald Miller's book, "Building a Storybrand", helps us to see our relationship with our ideal people as Luke Skywalker and Yoda — hero and guide. 🎉

The guide's role (YOU) helps your hero (your IDEAL PEOPLE) solve their problems:

1) internal problems that cause frustration or play into a fear of failure (what's keeping them up at night)
2) tangible problems "i need X to fix Y, so I buy Y" (I'm hungry, so I'll buy some food)
3) philosophical problems, this is an interesting one, because sometimes being a part of someone else's story and making a positive difference can be a strong motivator

Positioning yourself as a GUIDE helps you to focus on positioning yourself as someone who can deliver a plan, a solution, by minimising the risk and the fear that goes with taking that next step — show them that the future looks bright and hopeful. ✨

The moment you switch your mindset to these two characters and put yourself in the role of Yoda (the guide) talking about what you do becomes far more focused on the Skywalker (hero) of your business story — aka your ideal people; those who will buy or work with you or promote what you offer.

We all need eyes n ears in our network to help spread the word. 👏

DM me to talk about Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook or Google My Business and how I can help you do more on these social media channels to reach and guide your ideal people.

💡Repurposing is an essential social media marketing strategy — you don't need 365 ideas a year.

Why repurpose?
1) It will save you time and reduce any overwhelm
2) It will help you easily see what types of content are working best
3) It will help you reinforce what's important and valuable for your ideal people

My "4-step anatomy of a post" is an example of this and I regularly repost it — but first I'll check the currency of what I'm saying, I'll reword or add more detail and I'll often refresh the design and how/where I share it.

Fundamentally, it's not a new idea. 👏

So here's my 4-step guide, a checklist to help you create better posts for social media — don't forget to save for later 🔖

1) HEAD - Choose head-turning visuals - your aim is to stop the scroll
2) BODY - One message/idea per post - don’t overload with information
3) ARMS - Go beyond your followers - @ mention relevant others and use hashtags strategically
4) LEGS - What are the next steps? Comment, save, share, DM — what would you like me to do with this.

Friday cheer ... celebrating the 💚 - the green flags.
[my campaign for a "green flag" emoji starts here]

I received this lovely note from a client who I'm between contracts with: 'We understand you are doing a lot for us at the moment … and if you think you are over-stretching your hours with us just let us know.'

Now, because I'm a silly good egg and just want to help while waiting for sign off on the new contract, I didn't flag this myself — but my client did.

I'm sure this almost never happens (tell me I'm wrong!).

So a quick email exchange and we've agreed an interim arrangement, which they are more than happy with to fill the gap.

They recognised my worth and the extra work. What a dream client to have, eh?!

More of this please.

It's been quite a week ... Monday feels like 5mins ago. 🤪

I've been working with Chichester Cinema at New Park to get their new membership scheme ready for launch — still some loose ends and social content to finalise, but almost ready to hit the proverbial big green button. Our aim is to encourage everyone to fall in love with cinema all over again (especially if you have an awesome indie cinema like we do)

Me and Emily Perry have been dedicating some time to our side project 👀 Last Friday Club - Chichester a local and FREE networking group we've been running since 2016 making it an even better community for freelancers and solo-entrepreneurs in the Chichester area. Go check that out and join us at our next meetup, 24 February at Rume2

I've been creating so much content for clients that I feel like I live inside Canva — I love this part of my job, being creative is in my bones.

I've been giving my own business some focus and love thanks to the wit and wisdom of The Two Lauras

I've been helping long-term client, contemporary british artist Shazia Mahmood Paintings get in the zone for her painting study trip to the Isle of Mull, which prompted this feedback 👇

'Debbie have you seen the responses to the last post you did ! Absolutely incredible! Your so clever ! That has got people seriously interested'

That's just a taster of what I've been up to since Monday. There's also been a project wrap up and February planning with other clients too.

Oh and I had a stupid trip/fall while out running on Tuesday night 🤦‍♀️

So this weekend, I'm going to switch off — read, walk, drink red wine.

How about you, what are your plans?

If you’re already creating and sharing a newsletter to your audience from the likes of Mailchimp Klaviyo MailerLite ConvertKit etc then repurpose and send via LinkedIn’s built in newsletter tool.

I have over 400 subscribers on mine “Everything is Social”, that’s 25% more subscribers than my Mailchimp audience.

DM me to get started, I can help.
