There was a big turn-out in Newtownards tonight at a rally to protest against the possible privatisation of council leisure services.
The company that operates leisure services in the former North Down Council area wants to take control of leisure services in the greater Ards area including the Ards Blair Mayne Leisure Centre, Londonderry Park complex, Portaferry sports centre and Comber leisure centre.
The Northern Community Leisure Trust has approached Ards and North Down Council to propose it takes control of the Ards leisure services facilities in plan that is attracting growing opposition.
The council has yet to make a decision.
The blaze that greeted firefighters when they were called to a fire at a vehicle repair business off the North Road, in Newtownards on Wednesday evening. Eleven cars were badly damaged in the fire.

Firefighters battled a minibus fire this morning, outside Andrews Memorial Primary School. The fire is believed to have been caused by am electrical fault and there were no injuries.
