TORY MAJOR RUSHES THROUGH MOTION TO REMOVE THE LEADER OF DERBY CITY COUNCIL - TO BE HELD IN SECRET!

Tory Mayor Cllr Ged Potter has rushed through the motion (18th June) of No Confidence in the Leader of the Council, Cllr Shanker, to placate his leader Cllr Hassall and ex-Mayoral colleague Cllr Graves. Shockingly, the whole meeting will be held in PRIVATE so the public won’t know the real reasons why the Council received an invoice from Derbyshire County Council; the public will also not be able to see the nature of the grubby politicking by the Tories, Reform, Lib Dems and Independents. Both Graves and Mulhall are standing against Shanker for MP in Derby South and both are in favour of re-opening the Sinfin Incinerator!

To exacerbate matters the motion to appoint a new Leader will also be held in PRIVATE. Poor democracy!

The whole meeting should be held in PUBLIC and then everyone will be able to witness the extent to which the details of the Sinfin Incinerator are held by just a handful of people and that any voting will be necessarily based on “whipped” but not informed Cllrs.

The anointment of a new Leader should never be a PRIVATE matter.

This is a new low for Derby City Council and those complicit in this charade.

First time ever - roundabout by Aldi / The Mease ,in Hilton, impassable due to flooding.

Previous heavy rain has never affected this area and with other vulnerable areas in the village clear this should raise concerns. Water was gushing out of drains, flowing off land through people’s gardens, and culverts overflowing.

Hilton Parish Council team tried to help by clearing drains however the flow was too great.

It’s unlikely to be down, simply, to poorly cleaned drains. Perhaps the new, elevated, Lucas Lane housing development a short distance away has resulted in an unintended consequence not considered by South Derbyshire District Council’s planners. In any case, the various local Councils and water agencies need to understand the cause before further developments are approved.

Dame Margaret Beckett is awarded a Dame Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire for "parliamentary, political and public service". In the same year that the local Tory, Reform and Lib Dem Councillors didn't feel that she warranted being given the "Freedom of Derby" as she was "just doing her job". Undignified local politics!
