This year hasn't exactly gone according to plan for me. Life has thrown me many, many curveballs and with so many false starts, I've had to make some difficult decisions.
But I'm hoping to leave all that in the first half of the year.

Remember lockdown? Who doesn't?!
It feels completely surreal right now. Our lives as we knew them completely changed and we had no idea how long it would be for or whether life would go back to normal.
Now, 4 years after the first lockdown, it just seems like this weird blip in our lives that we find hard to believe happened. And one we'll be telling our grandkids about.
During lockdown, my work effectively dried up. I did some pro bono work for my existing clients, partly to keep their accounts ticking over and partly to keep my brain functioning!
It was also during this time that I decided to focus on Pinterest. Not sure if it was the doom and gloom of the pandemic or if I was just generally looking for more positivity.
I see Pinterest as the last positive place on the internet - no trolls or negativity allowed! And now I specialise in Pinterest consultation and training, I couldn't imagine doing anything else!
I'd love to know, how did the pandemic affect your business? Did you change what you were offering or did you manage to keep the same services?

I've been feeling incredibly uninspired recently.
I start writing a post or a blog but then my mind goes completely blank.
If it wasn't for Be Heard Socials monthly content plan and Teresa Heath-Wareing's gentle arse-kicking, I wouldn't get any content out!
But it's still sometimes a struggle. So I'm wondering who else feels the same way and if you have any tip or ideas to help kickstart my inspiration!

What trend can you incorporate into your marketing?
Did you know that in my previous life I was a Facilities Manager for an advertising agency.
I joined the company as a receptionist and worked my way up to joint head of the department.
When you work in a service department, particularly in a creative industry, you quickly develop a very thick skin and the ability to know what your colleagues need even before they do. We were very good at making the impossible happen.
I looked after health and safety, company mobiles, on-site events and building maintenance and God knows how many other responsibilities that weren't on my job description.
And I became very skilled in quickly opening several bottles of champagne without any mess!
When I had kids, it was hard to be as flexible as the role required, given the unpredictability.
Not many pics of me during working hours so this is from one of our Christmas parties. The party was on site and you can tell I'm still "on duty" by the Blackberry (remember them?!) sticking out of my bra.
Even there are some elements of an office job that I miss, I couldn't go back to a 9-5 position. My life is too unpredictable and I enjoy the freedom and flexibility a bit too much.
Looking back though, there are elements of my former career that are helpful as a freelancer. A thick skin and the ability to second guess what your client needs are definitely advantageous when it comes to working in social media.

When you create your Pinterest business account the first thing you want to do is optimise your profile.
Keep it on brand and make sure you include your logo and if appropriate a photo of you. If you’re the face of your brand, then it helps create a sense of brand identity to show your face.
Don't forget to include your business name, a little bit about what you do and make sure you claim your website!

Do you listen to music when you're working?
Sometimes I need complete silence, but if I listen to music it has to be mid-late 90s indie. Think that's because that's what generally got me through university and it still makes me a lot more productive than any other genre. Unless I'm cleaning then it's 90s dance music!

I’m off to Ireland on the ferry tomorrow. No cabins available on the overnight sailing so we’re daytime sailing, from Liverpool, which means leaving the house at 4.00 AM 😫 Long day ahead for me…
But today, I’m recording a podcast, taking rubbish to the recycling centre, getting the car cleaned and packing the car up before I get maybe about 2 hours sleep and then mainline coffee to get me through the 5 hour drive!
But first a little breather with a coffee and a croissant!

So, our return trip from Norway took an unexpected turn and I ended up on a 33 hour bus journey. 3 buses 2 Ferries 8 Countries Norway-Sweden-Denmark-Germany-The Netherlands-Belgium-France-England It wouldn’t have been my first choice of travel but I chose to embrace it. It was surprisingly easy to organise and I couldn’t fault the service. Plus I got to see some amazing scenery! If I had to repeat the experience I would definitely take the opportunity to plan more and enjoy some of the cities we visited. First image has the necessary travel pillow which was a God send! Have you had any unexpected experiences that turned out better than you expected?

Last week I took a trip to Possibility Place by Pinterest! So much going on with a beauty parlour offering mini tattoos, make overs, and workshops including mocktail making and candle decorating, with lots of inspiration on how to decorate your rented home! Sadly, I was far too late to book any of the beauty treatments and the workshops were very popular but the atmosphere was incredible and there was so much inspiration to take back to your home. On Pinterest, you can find inspiration for any aspect of your life , so no wonder its such a positive place!

So it's the best day of the year! As far as social media professionals are concerned anyway. Today is World Social Media Day. Can you believe there are still people who don't see the power that social media can bring to their business? The way I see it, social media builds communities. When you run a business, you want to build a community of like-minded people to support you, and I have an amazing community around me! It's amazing how much having a supportive community can help you succeed.
Did you know that there are multiple pin options on Pinterest? Pinterest wants you to showcase your product or service in the best possible way so offers different types of pin, each with their own unique elements. But which pin should you choose? A Standard Pin is a single, static image which highlights your product or service in a simple vertical or square image. The pin links directly to your website in one click, but it can be slower to grow traffic. A Video Pin is a great way to share a larger story with your audience. It's perfect for "how-to's" of a product or a service and Pinterest users are 53% more likely to make a purchase after seeing a video. Carousel Pins are single pins with 2-5 images or videos, or "cards" Each card has its own title, description, and link so perfect for showing multiple products or even steps in a recipe. "Shop-the-look" Pins allow users to find products from lifestyle images. Tapping a pin will highlight the products that are tagged. You can tag any product from your catalogue or website and it's ideal for showcasing multiple products from a new collection or one product with multiple features. Remember, Pinterest wants to push your brand in front of Pinners and with so many different ways of presenting your product you're guaranteed to find new customers!
