On the sad passing earlier this week of Mark Baynes of
East End Enquirer (formerly Love Wapping).
Today, as we mark the sixth anniversary of the tragic death of the British Member of Parliament, Jo Cox who was killed by a far-right extremist, let us reflect upon the message from her maiden speech which carries just as much significance today as it did back then.
I'm deeply concerned about the proposed cuts to the D3 bus service, which would isolate from the rest of the borough.
The D3 currently connects Bethnal Green and Leamouth via Wapping and Canary Wharf. The route is vital, especially given that Wapping Overground Station isn't step-free.
Under the new proposals, the step-free direct link between Wapping, Limehouse and Canary Wharf would be lost, creating access barriers to the transport network for passengers with mobility issues.
We cannot afford to lose this vital service, which keeps our communities across Tower Hamlets connected.

Please sign the petition to Save the D3 Bus Service from cuts by London's Labour Mayor and the Conservatives. The service currently connects Bethnal Green and Leamouth via Wapping and Canary Wharf and is a vital public transport option.
Yesterday I jumped out of a plane from 15,000ft to raise money for Teddy20, a Dorset-based charity supporting children with cancer.
After a short moment of panic, the minute-long free fall was so exhilarating and honestly one of the most incredible experiences ever! 🪂
We’re fully reenergised again and spent today talking to residents on the doorsteps in St Katharine’s & .
It’s lovely that people are happy to see us out and about in the local community.
As ever, do get in touch with us at [email protected] if you have any local issues.
NEW: I have written to my councillors to encourage them to ask the new political administration on Tower Hamlets Council to protect + spaces and services in our borough and fly the Pride flag at the Town Hall during Pride Month in June. 🏳️🌈
The only thing you have to fear is fear itself … and, in mine and Guy's case, jumping out of a perfectly good aeroplane from 15,000 feet.
On 28 May, Guy and I will be skydiving (yes, I'm terrified) to raise money for Teddy20, a Dorset-based charity, whose aim is to provide emotional and financial support to children and young people suffering and undergoing treatment for cancer.
It would be amazing if you would consider making a small donation:
Help Guy Benson raise money to support Teddy20
Think I’ve made a new friend on the doorsteps 🐶
Warm sunny welcome to St Katharine’s & Wapping for Sarah Green MP today.
Much like in Sarah’s constituency of Chesham & Amersham, people feel like they are not being listened to.
We will always listen to residents and demand better for our community!
🚨 EXCITING NEWS 🚨
Our petition with over 300 signatures for a new passenger riverboat service in Wapping has been accepted to be heard at Tower Hamlets Council's meeting this evening.
Alongside residents, we will make the case for investment into this asset to our community.
More info, including the agenda, here: https://democracy.towerhamlets.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=309&MId=12365
🤩 Buzzing to welcome former candidate for St Katharine’s & Wapping, Stephen O’Shea, back to the ward yesterday.
👮♀️ Residents remember Stephen’s work in helping revive the ward panel.
📸 We have continued urging the Council to invest in speed cameras along Wapping High Street.
😁 Awesome to be joined by my pal and the next MP for Eastbourne, Josh Babarinde OBE, on the doorsteps in St Katharine’s & Wapping.
💪 Residents are demanding more effective and visible representation on the Council.
🗳 We are listening and ready to hit the ground running in May!
🥀 I've heard from residents that some of our opponents are claiming that we aren't standing in St Katharine's & Wapping.
🔶 We are standing and ready to give our local community a fresh start from dishonest politics and ineffective representation.
🗳️ Demand Better on 5 May!
Thank you to London Young Liberals for joining us on the doorsteps in St Katharine’s & Wapping today.
In 2018 we came within only 90 votes of electing a hardworking local Lib Dem councillor – this time we can do it!
Our community deserves a fresh start with effective representation!
We just had a fabulous evening on the doorsteps in St Katharine’s & Wapping.
Strong show of support from residents, who are happy to see dedicated local campaigners who care and want to work hard for our community.
We deserve better than the same inefficient representation.
Yesterday evening we spoke to people in St Katharine’s & about issues that affect our community.
One resident told us specifically about the lack of communication from local councillors.
It’s time we elected councillors who are approachable and listen to residents.

Not a Wordle – just Labour’s one party domination of Tower Hamlets Council on less than half the vote.
Great evening having lots of positive conversations on the doorstep in Matilda House.
Frequently raised issues affecting residents in St Katharine’s & Wapping are the bus gate and nitrous oxide canisters.
We need a fresh voice and effective opposition on Tower Hamlets Council.
Today we reflect on the senseless loss of life in the Holocaust and recommit ourselves to building a world without hatred and persecution; a world in which we don't turn a blind eye to human rights abuses around the world, including to the ongoing genocide in Xinjiang.
💰 A damning FOI request revealed that Tower Hamlets Council has generated £4.3m in revenue from Wapping Bus Gate Fines.
🚌 Whilst we, along with a majority of local residents, support a bus gate in principle in eliminating the rat-run, the failure to provide exemptions for residents has caused serious inconvenience.
🤝 Liberal Democrat Candidates for St Katharine’s and Wapping, Dominic Buxton and Mahbub Alam, are urging the Council to reinvest the revenue generated from the Wapping Bus Gate directly into our local community.

Great to be joined by such a cracking team in St Katharine’s & Wapping this evening.
Residents are frustrated with the lack of opposition on the Council, and know that Boris Johnson’s Tories are not a credible alternative.
It’s time for a fresh start for our local community.
The use of nitrous oxide laughing gas is an issue in St Katharine's & Wapping.
A recent study concluded that it has a harmful impact on nervous tissue and can cause sexual dysfunction.
We are calling on Tower Hamlets Council to launch an educational public health campaign. 👇
💉 This morning I got my booster from Tower Pharmacy staff at Raine House in Wapping. They are doing walk-ins and it’s super quick. Please also get yours to keep our community safe.
🔶 We then went door-knocking on Kennet St, speaking to residents about their local issues.
🗳️ For a fresh alternative in the council elections this May, you have a choice:
Will it be Boris Johnson’s Tories, tainted by lies and scandals, or a team of Lib Dem Councillors who will listen to you and stand up for your values? 👇

Following a short break, we are out again, talking to residents in St Katharine’s and Wapping.
Leaks and mould in properties are a frequent issue, as well as the dumping of nitrous oxide canisters.
We will continue to listen to residents and demand better for our community.
Happy New Year! Wishing everyone in St Katharine's and Wapping and across Tower Hamlets a happy and healthy 2022.
Boris Johnson has obliterated any shred of moral credibility.
While the Tories held Christmas parties, people made huge sacrifices and I missed my gran's last Christmas.
On Channel S I prompted a simple question to the Tories and Labour: Should the Prime Minister resign? 👇

The Liberal Democrats seismic victory in North Shropshire has made clear that no Conservative seat is safe anymore. This morning I spoke about Helen Morgan's historic by-election win on Times Radio 🔶👇
Today I joined thousands of leaseholders in Parliament Square, demanding urgent action on the building fire safety crisis. It’s time for the govt & rich developers to stop putting profit over people and protect trapped leaseholders. #EndOurCladdingScandal #LeaseholdersTogether
Walking past the National Covid Memorial opposite Parliament the other day. It took at least five minutes. How on earth the government can claim to have handled the pandemic well is truly beyond me. This is absolutely heartbreaking 💔
Yesterday I spoke to Channel S about my predictions for the upcoming G7 summit in Cornwall, and how Joe Biden's Irish ancestry could affect the dynamic of his meeting with Boris Johnson and lead to discussions on the Northern Ireland Protocol. #G7Cornwall
Today I joined innocent leaseholders at the cladding and fire safety protest in Canary Wharf. We are calling on the developers (Ballymore), the Government and Robert Jenrick to take urgent action and put people over profit. #EndOurCladdingScandal #NotJustCladding
Lovely day campaigning for Sarah Green today. Lots of positive responses from people who are increasingly fed up of Boris Johnson’s government. The Lib Dems are the only party who can beat the Tories in Chesham and Amersham! 🔶
I voted for Luisa Porritt and the Liberal Democrats on all three ballot papers today! 🗳 Let’s get Caroline Pidgeon AM a strong team at City Hall by electing Hina Bokhari and Rob Blackie to the London Assembly. Polling stations are open until 10pm! ⏰ It’s time to #TakeLondonForward! 🔶
