So, the weekend has come around again, and with it a rather unusual episode of A Saucerful Of Prog (Saturday 16 March), in the continuing NEW TIME SLOT of Midnight-2am Saturday night, UK Time on Rock Radio UK). I've decided to try a new experiment for occasional 'specials', by focussing on one single band and its offshoots, and whole 'family tree'. This week the first of these will be based around YES, with a couple of their own tracks of course, with also stuff from Badger, Mabel Greer's Toyshop, Refugee, ABWH, King Crimson, Arc Of Life and DBA, as well as solo material from Jon Anderson, Chris Squire, Rick Wakeman and Tony Kaye. The show will be REPEATED as usual on Wednesday night, at 9pm. Please do tune in, and let me know if this format is worth repeating (maybe Genesis, ELP, Crimson... etc). https://www.rockradiouk.com/ to listen (PLEASE NOTE - ROCK RADIO UK is now available to listen to on Alexa... the link is on the station website. So, the weekend has come around again, and with it a rather celebratory episode of A Saucerful Of Prog (Saturday 9 March), in the continuing NEW TIME SLOT of Midnight-2am Saturday night, UK Time on Rock Radio UK). The reason for the celebration is that this is the 250th show I have done since moving to Rock Radio UK, without missing a week, which is probably worthy of at least the odd balloon or two 😁. The show will be REPEATED as usual on Wednesday night, at 9pm. Some great new and contemporary stuff up tonight, from Steve Hackett, Matt Steady, Dreaming Madmen and Pure Reason Revolution . It's the first weekend of the year, and this edition of A Saucerful Of Prog (Saturday 6 Jan), in the continuing NEW TIME SLOT of Midnight-2am Saturday night, UK Time on Rock Radio UK, is going to be looking back at my very best picks from the past year For those who like the evening time, the show will be REPEATED each Wednesday night now, at 9pm. I will be doing the rundown of my own Top Ten albums of the year, and featuring a favourite track from each one. Including some great stuff from HeKz, Uriah Heep, KARNATAKA, mystery, The Hayley Griffiths Band, The Emerald Dawn, Ozric Tentacles, IO EARTH, Carrie Martin and So Long, Space Girl. It's really heartening to see the scene in such great shape so many years after it was written off by so many naysayers. But we knew... It's the last weekend of the year, and as always that means it's a special edition of A Saucerful Of Prog (Saturday 30 Dec), in the continuing NEW TIME SLOT of Midnight-2am Saturday night, UK Time on Rock Radio UK). For those who like the evening time, the show will be REPEATED each Wednesday night now, at 9pm. For this show, I always like to take a trip back through those musicians who have sadly left us over the past year, and pay my own tribute by playing a highlight from their catalogue - and in the case of the less 'proggy' ones, a track which I believe is wel suited to prog-loving ears, which my refined listenership of course have! This time out 'll be honouring Jeff Beck, Tom Verlaine, Robin Lumley, Gary Rossington, Ray Shulman, John Fean, Jon Povey, Francis Monkman, Andy Rourke, Bernie Marsden, David LaFlamme, Gary Wright, Randy Meisner and Charlie Dominici. Some of the names may be more familiar than others, but all have produced some very special music and been in some great bands. Please do tune in! https://www.rockradiouk.com/ to listen (PLEASE NOTE - ROCK RADIO UK is now available to listen to on Alexa... the link is on the station website. So, the Christmas weekend has come around, and that means it's time for the seasonal edition of A Saucerful Of Prog (Saturday 23 Dec), in the continuing NEW TIME SLOT of Midnight-2am Saturday night, UK Time on Rock Radio UK). For those who like the evening time, the show will be REPEATED each Wednesday night now, at 9pm. Do not fear, though, as this will be no catalogue of tired Christmas songs. Rather, every track played on the show will have some connection to the season, the month, Christmas in particular - to a greater or more tangential degree. This could be the band name, album or song title, or lyrical content - it's like an alternative, but good, Xmas playlist. Nobody will be eliminated from 'Whamageddon', guaranteed! Some great new and contemporary stuff will be featured, including the likes of This Winter Machine (you get the idea), Tiger Moth Tales, Cyan and Mostly Autumn (who do love this time of year in their own shows of course. There will also be a host of great music from across the years as well, with the likes of Black Sabbath, Gentle Giant and Caravan among others, so do tune in! https://www.rockradiouk.com/ to listen (PLEASE NOTE - ROCK RADIO UK is now available to listen to on Alexa... the link is on the station website.
