🎉 My First Blog Post is Live! 🎉

I’m thrilled to announce that my new blog post, diving into my relationship with Character and Narrative in my work, is now up on my website! But that's not all—I had the incredible opportunity to chat with one of the most renowned 3D artists in the industry today, Cornelius Dämmrich! 😲

Really excited to share this project! 🧹

This time I've had the pleasure of turning this incredible illustration by Eirini Michailidou into a 3D sculpture ready for printing!! I can say I've printed the prototype and it looks fantastic. The final sculpt is on the printer now and will be a whopping 20cm so let's pray that works first time 🙏

This project was a really nice departure from the retopologizing, UV mapping, hyper realistic textures of my usual projects. Sometimes it's just nice to sculpt and throw it on the printer 😁🤘

For the past 3 weeks, I've been working with the incredible Giogio Di Santo to turn one of his illustrations into a fully rendered, fully rigged 3D character. While adding a bit of my own flare, of course. I urge you to go check out his work 🙏

I love working on projects like this, not solely because I develop my skills further and step out of the old comfort zone, but because working with other creatives and getting a deeper look into their practice is simply unmatched in terms of creative development. I'm very guilty of receding into my own creative world, even still. And while it can be good, it's collaborations like this that bring us right out of a potentially unhelpful bubble and set us on an exciting path again.

~Method~

I sculpted the body in 'A-Pose' in Zbrush, then moved to Maya to retopologise, UV map and set up the rig. Once the body was UV'd (including UDIMS) I moved into Marvelous Designer to design the clothing. Once the clothing was in place I textured the lot in Substance painter before moving back into Maya to animate him into the pose you see in the final image. I exported this animation to Marvelous Designer where I simulated the clothing, before finally coming back into Maya to light and render.

It's been a long one this, but I think I've taken the sculptural details as far as I need to while retaining some stylisation. Hopefully all the individual elements will unify even more once it's all painted up nicely 👏
