Ad upcycling ikea drawers into country style furniture of dreams with @harrisbrushes_uk ..Save for country cottage style inspiration 🏡
Our ikea hemnes drawers were simply not the style of furniture we wanted but new bedroom furniture wasn't an affordable option. So we decided to upcycle the ikea drawers we already had and turn them into a modern country style. We have gone from white acrylic to modern vintage oak furniture complete with bobbin trim. Here’s how ⬇️ save for the step by step.
1. Use the Harris Super Scraper to remove the top acrylic coating from the furniture
2. Liberally apply fine wood stripper and leave for 30 minutes before using the super scraper again to remove most of the white stain
3. Complete the stripping of the furniture back to bare wood using an electric sander and 80 grit sandpaper followed by 120 grit sandpaper
4. Route around the drawer fronts 14mm for a recessed bobbin trim finish that looks like the bobbin has been carved into the wood itself. You can simplify this step by not routing and instead glueing the bobbin straight onto the drawer front for a proud effect
5. Use the Harris Ultimate Sanding blocks in medium and fine to sand into all corners and round off all edges
6. Using mitre shears, cut your bobbin trim to size and then use mitre glue to stick in place
7. For the perfect modern vintage finish use jacobean dark oak wood stain and apply with Harris Ultimate Woodwork Stain and Varnish brushes for an even coat
8. For a protective layer you can use Harris fine steel wool with dark furniture wax to seal over your stain
9. Finish with scalloped handles for the ultimate pretty decoration for your modern vintage style drawers
Did you think that an ikea furniture upcycle could look this good? I adore it’s charming country style now and the impact that the bobbin trim has on the drawers. The surface feels silky smooth to the touch and the wood makes our cottage style bedroom feel even cosier ❤️
Is this so
Take a bow... homemakers, DIYers, giving it a go-ers, jugglers, learners, doing your best-ers !!!
Today I was talking to my friend Abi @thewhitethistle about how easy we find it to forget how amazing we are, how far we have come, what we have achieved. We got a bit emotional considering what a wasted effort it is for us to always dwell on what we haven't instead of what we have. So I made this silliness for all of us DIY home makers just doing our best.
Tag a friend that needs a wee reminder of their amazingness 🦸♀️💙💪

I'm not a gardener, OK 🤣 but I do my best! And if that's your vibe then great! Beginner gardeners united 👭🏻
We are blessed with a garden but we are not blessed with the kind of garden social media may have you believe is normal 😂🙈 Clay ground, weeds for grass, weeds for flowers, crumbling patio, a fence hanging on for dear life...
But I'm going to be doing my best little bit by little bit to make this family garden summer ready DIY style. So follow along for the journey, one thing I can promise is it will be a realistic journey for sure. Garden makeovers weren't built in a day...or in 6.5 years which is how long we've lived here 😬

Ad – sage green colour drenching en-suite makeover: save this post for colour drench inspo!
I’m honoured to be working with @wickes and @kimberleywalshofficial on their new collaborative paint launch, Subtle Sage! The paint is a perfect shade of green for use in all spaces to create a calm cosiness. I colour drenched our en-suite using Subtle Sage to make the room feel bigger and brighter, so if you’re feeling inspired, here’s some painting tips for you to consider when using Subtle Sage in your room makeover:
1. Paint over darker walls with a nice white base first to provide the best foundation for painting Subtle Sage onto. I used @wickes Mould Protect Paint for a belt and braces approach to our en-suite makeover.
2. When painting on skirting and architrave, be sure to prime first with a suitable base coat to protect your wood, to help the paint adhere, and to block any knots or staining. I used Zinsser BIN on both woodwork and MDF panelling for the best protection possible.
3. If using emulsion on your woodwork, be sure to cover it with a protective acrylic topcoat. I used @wickes Quick Dry Varnish in a matte finish, so the woodwork blends
seamlessly with the walls for a colour drenched effect.
4. Colour drenching makes small rooms feel bigger and more impactful. Try using Subtle Sage on your ceilings down to your skirting boards for a calming effect.
5. Wrap foil around the edge of your paint tin to keep your tin clean and tidy; it also makes popping the lid on and off so much easier.
Don’t forget to save this post for painting tips and colour drench inspiration, and let me know: where would you use Subtle Sage in your room makeover?

Ad - save for cottagecore bedroom inspiration 🌷
I've turned our bedroom from dull, beige and bland into a vintage cottagecore bedroom dream come true with @earthbornpaints NEW Treat your Senses colours Bunny Hop 🐰 and Flora's Tale 🌸. Designed to work in perfect harmony with each other, all 5 shades of this new paint launch are a delight for the senses. Flora's Tale is an earthy vintage pink and is beautifully complemented by Bunny Hop's neutral subtlety. Mixed wood tones in the furniture help to ground this colour palette with a vintage vibe. And just wait till you see what furniture upcycling plan I have to turn these white drawers into a vintage pine delight 😍
I used Earthborn's Lifestyle Paint in colour Bunny Hop on the walls and ceiling. For the woodwork and panelling, I did a light sand before priming with Earthborn's Multi Purpose Primer and then topped off with 2 coats of their luscious Eggshell No.17 in Flora's Tale.
Have you ever considered having a pink bedroom before?
Don't forget to save for vintage pink bedroom and cottagecore inspo and check out the other colours from Earthborn Paint's Treat your Senses launch 🌸❤️

Living room makeover plans...follow along to see it happen starting this weekend...
We are going to start with removing the existing fireplace and building a faux chimney breast wall. We can't decide whether to have the TV wall mounted (and ideally disguised somehow) or keep it in the left hand recess. What would you do? I'm leaning towards having it in the left hand recess but it changes daily 😂
I'm also planning on building out the window seat to have lots of book storage and make it into a wee mini library come reading nook 😍
I need to work out living room furniture layout to include a desk too, it's like living my childhood fantasies in real life by rearranging the room 😂 did anyone else move around their bedroom furniture on the weekly? 😂
I will be sharing the living room makeover moodboard soon so stay tuned to see that and the plans for this DIY reno. Anyone want to predict the colour palette? 👀🤭

Viral Bobbin Panelling and Bobbin furniture trim, an easy DIY, and now I have a discount code to share ⬇️...
These strips of Bobbin trim are from @naturtrend and super easy to glue or nail gun in place (I used only a nail gun in the end for speed). You can buy the Bobbin strips in multiple size options. I used the 1.2cm wide bead trim option and ordered it in the 2.4m long lengths although we agreed to cut them in half for shipping to make the shopping cost better and preserve the safety of the product better. I cut them with simple basic mitre shears from Amazon so no extra power tools are needed to use this beaded trim, especially for furniture upcycles if not needing to cut panelling strips too.
For this room I bought 10 strips at a cost of £39 plus £10 postage and packing which is a fraction of the cost of other options. I've also ordered more since for some furniture upcycles 😍
And now, after this beautiful bobbin product has gone viral because you all love it so much, I have a discount code to share with you EMMA10! You can use this on all of @naturtrend products and in conjunction with any other offer they're running. So save for later so you can use the bobbin trim or other products on your next wall panelling project or furniture upcycle.
I hope this helps ❤️ are you more likely to use this on bobbin wall panelling or a bobbin furniture upcycle?

What do you think of the importance of resale value? I used to care so much, I used to talk about decorating our family home in a way that respected the opinions of imaginary people in the future who may or may not come to view my house (😵💫). And all I did was waste time, money and effort creating a home that didn't feel like ours...it was very white and very grey and very ikea. I also appreciate that not every buyer can see past the decor in front of them and that there may need to be some toning down at the point that you come to sell. But that point isn't now for us.
I found this audio today from a new account I hadn't come across before @kevrosehome and it was an immediate follow for me because I so immediately resonated with what was being said.
So what do you think? Let me know below.

Ad - the @lauraashleyuk Farnham Stripe wallpaper is the perfect beginner DIY wallpaper 🙌❤️ Here's why...
1. It's paste the wall wallpaper so no waiting for glue to set, no awkward folding of strips, and no need for a wallpaper pasting table.
2. A vertical stripe has no pattern drop to try and match up to. This reduces difficulty and also reduces waste making it a much more affordable wallpaper option too.
3. The texture of the wallpaper is thick without being heavy or crispy meaning you can gently slide it on the wall into position as well as manipulate it in corners more easily.
4. If you choose to apply this wallpaper on one wall you will minimise the difficulty in wrapping wallpaper around corners. However, with a vertical stripe at least wallpaper matching at the room edge is an easier and neater job.
5. To make it even easier for beginners, consider applying your wallpaper as a feature to a wall with no doors and window which make wallpaper application a bit trickier. Or do what I've done and go for a half wall design with wall panelling or dado rail underneath.
6. This beautiful and classic wallpaper is utterly timeless meaning that all of your DIY wallpapering efforts will stand the test of time and age beautifully 😍 you won't tire of a striped wallpaper like the Farnham Stripe.
I can't wait to show you the wall panelling I've designed to go with this striped wallpaper, you're going to love it. I'm just painting the last of it today and will hope to show you later this week so pop back for that 😍
