🎆🎄 FIREWORKS + FESTIVE MARKETS IN THE JQ 🎄 🎆 There's load of awesome stuff going on in the JQ this festive period (including multiple independent markets), but to kick the season off in style be sure to head to their annual Christmas Lights Switch On event and firework display on 15 November (5pm - 7pm). This year Marc Silk (the voice actor behind Aks Moe and Tey How in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, who has also voiced Cartoon Network's Scooby Doo and Shaggy, as well as everybody's favourite animated penguin Pingu - can I get a NOOT NOOT 🐧) will be doing the honours of flipping the switch and turning on the JQ's 100+ festive lights (including the giant 3m x 3m illuminated diamond ring and two 30ft Christmas trees). At the Lights Switch On event there will also be delicious vegan and veggie foodie treats from Notty Bites (the street food trader behind the popular Somewhere In Brum), plenty of festive tipples and nibbles (courtesy of Rose Villa Tavern, Lunchi and Urban), live music, and the aforementioned spectacular fireworks display (at 6pm). Sounds dreamy.

15 November - Birmingham Design + Friends Makers Market at The Jointworks (5pm - 9pm) where you can get your hands on anything from beautiful prints and Christmas cards to handmade jewellery, ceramics, clothing and more.

🚨 NEW OPENING 🚨 Check out this brand new Mediterranean restaurant and bar opening soon in Brum called Regina's 🤩🤩🤩

Opening at the end of January 2025 on Newhall Street (just off Colmore Row, where Purnell's Bistro and Ginger's Bar used to be), Regina's is the brand new modern Mediterranean restaurant and bar from the team behind the fantastic Noel's Bar & Restaurant, serving delicious Mediterranean dishes alongside cocktails, wines, beers and more - and if these visuals are anything to go by, it's going to look unbelievably stunning 😍🙌

All that's left to do now is to wait in eager anticipation for them to open in January - and then be sure to go visit and support when you can. Viva Brum!

🚨 YAKINORI ON NEW STREET IS FINALLY RE-OPENING AND GIVING AWAY £1 KATSU CURRIES 🚨 Finally, after what has seemed an eternity (and in reality is 2 years), we're delighted to announce that the fantastic Yakinori on New Street will be re-opening this November - and to celebrate they're offering customers their Brum-famous Katsu Curries for just £1 🤩🙌

Having closed their doors in September 2022 due to severe flooding, it's wonderful to hear that they'll be back open again - with the official opening date being Friday 22 November, where Yakinori fans can go and stuff their faces with their fave sushi rolls, poké bowls, bento boxes, noodle bowls, bao, Katsu curry and more.

However, on Thursday 21 November (from 11am - 4pm) Yakinori will be inviting customers to come down and see the newly renovated digs and tuck into a mouth-watering and heart-warming Katsu Curry for just £1 (all you have to do in return is sign up to be a Yakinori Club Member). All proceeds will go to Birmingham Children's Hospital Charity, so it's for a very worthy cause and they're hoping for a great turnout and lots of support from the good folk of Brum.

🚨 NEW OPENING 🚨 The fantastic Bakehouse have opened a brand new bakery and cafe in the Jewellery Quarter 🤩🤩🤩

Located on Northwood Street in the Jewellery Quarter, Bakehouse is the latest addition to the JQ's amazing indie scene (which is set to get really exciting over the coming months with some really terrific new openings). Serving up tasty coffees from Quarter Horse Coffee alongside an array of mouth-watering pastries, cakes, freshly-made artisanal breads (including sourdough loaves and focaccia), sandwiches, soups, toastiest and more, we're certain Bakehouse is going to be a hugely popular addition to the Jewellery Quarter.

🚨 NEW OPENING 🚨 The absolutely brilliant Greidy's Wings & Strips have opened a brand new street food venue in Stirchley called Greidy St and it looks incredible 🤩🤩🤩

Following the sad news of the closure of their previous restaurant, the news of this brand new venue was truly wonderful to hear. They have their street food truck outside for all of your mouth-watering fried chicken needs, and then inside the vibes are immaculate with plenty of seating, great tunes, great drinks (cocktails, craft beers including their very own Greidy's Lager, and more) - and most importantly, super friendly and passionate people doing what they love best. This is a brilliant new addition to Stirchley's incredible indie scene, and we know they're going to be hugely popular. Congrats on the opening gang, we know it's been a long road and it's great to see you smashing it!

In addition to this, soon there will be a Greidy's Deli within the venue where people can enjoy homemade sandwiches prepared from the counter, hot toasted baguettes, pork and stuffing sandwiches and more, alongside coffees from the excellent Quarter Horse Coffee. Sounds dreamy.

🚨 NEW OPENING 🚨 A brand new bakery and cafe is set to open in Stirchley next week called Aphra Bakes 😍🙌

Located on 1270 Pershore Road, Aphra Bakes plans to be a bakery and cafe serving up Quarter Horse coffees and real chocolate hot chocolates, alongside an array of delicious baked goods - the vibe being "cakes that your nan used to bake, if your nan baked" (think lemon drizzle, Victoria sponge, banana cake, chocolate Guinness cake - nice, super tasty, but not overly fancy). In addition to cakes, there will also be decorated cookies and other tasty treats (with a bespoke decorated gingerbread house service too) - with all baked goodies made in-house. Sounds dreamy!

Opening this winter, one of Brum's most popular indie bakeries is set to open a brand new bakery on Pershore Road in Stirchley. The new bakery will be packed to the rafters with the same incredible baked goods that have made Levain & Cherry super popular in Kings Heath, as well as serving up hot drinks (with more delights set to be added to the menu once they're up and running).

From huge focaccias and glorious baguettes, to mouth-watering baked goods and sweet treats - this will be a fabulous (and definitely a hugely popular) addition to Stirchley's already incredible indie scene, and we're here for it!

Our city's independents have had an incredibly tough 14 months since Covid hit, and it's wonderful to see so many of them back open again.
