Are you bored with your exercises? Do you practise with Intention?
I have written a book of exercises (for pedal and non- pedal) which use beautiful, rich harmonies, look at rhythm, (which most of us are scared of) as well as ending up being able to improvise (or at least give it a go!).
If you are bored with your current exercises, look no further as this book uses all of the good things which we are taught in our classical exercises and puts them in a different setting. But the results will amaze you.
The intention? To be able to have a good technique, be totally involved, own your rhythm, be able to transpose and ….be more focussed!
Here’s what some teachers say:
Brandee Younger:
It’s a beautiful and pragmatic approach to teaching technique that can be directly applied to music. My students and I have been enjoying playing the exercises in different keys.
Grace Browning
Principal harpist of Rochester Philharmonic and The Santa Fe Opera: Amanda’s “Practise with Intention” is not only a thorough and practical exercise book, but also a sound method for developing mindful practice, rhythmic integrity, and harmonic awareness. Moreover, it serves as a vehicle towards improvisation and true fluency at the harp...a staple for every harpist’s library!
Available from Harp Column Music and hard copies from The Harp Studio and Atlanta Harp Centre

New book
I finally have some hard copies for those wanting something to hold!!! 🎉
The new pdf of Practising with Intention is available from @harpcolumn music in USA and pdf/ hard copy @theharpstudio in the UK. I’ve printed them on a lighter paper so they easily slip into your gig bag (no excuse for not having them with you!😂)
It’s for intermediate to advanced harpists. Why did I write it? Because I was bored!! I wanted to exercises to inspire me. I was just going through the motions and not improving! The book is full of my thoughts/ focuses.. the questions I ask myself when I’m practising… am I raising my shoulders? Was that even? Could I subdivide into triplets? Where am I holding the beat? What’s the intention with this exercise?
With rich scrumptious chords, rhythmical focus and the possibility of improvising, this book takes any harpist on a journey of self discovery. Can you transpose easily, can you subdivide, can you improvise over chords? Hopefully by the last page you can! 🤞
……….
“This new book is simply wonderful! It is a completely new take on harp exercises, and covers so many useful topics – including essentials like developing an internal pulse, understanding chord relationships, and staying engaged at our instrument. I am really looking forward to using it with students and also with my own practise!”

I wrote this song A Warm Christmas Cwtch as a commission for Harp Column pull outs in their December magazine. I wanted to create an atmosphere of warmth, like the feeling of a Welsh cwtch (hug). I hope you like it♥️for the sheet music, pop along to Harp Column Music and give it a go:)🎄🎄
