MAM Warp Nine Analogue Midi Filter: £499

Rare MAM Warp Nine analogue filter based on the famous EDP Wasp synth filter from 1978

These were sold under different names including MAM (Music and More) and FAT (Freeform Analogue Technologies) and many were sold by the Turnkey shop in London

This example is branded Terratec Sine Warp 9 and was developed by MAM in Bavaria

Shure FP42 stereo preamp / limiter: £599

The FP42 is a rare find now - this is the first I've seen in a couple of years. It has the usual Shure output limiter, and four inputs with pan-pots & high-pass filter. Channels are switchable between mic & line level and pass through the input transformer

Output is transformer balanced with the lovely Shure limiter. Limit threshold is set internally on the FP42, so I set it to kick in early for maximum compression

Power supply is switchable 110 / 220 Volts and is set to 220 for the UK / EU. New UK power plug fitted - EU plug available on request

The 160X, XT & A continue the tradition of the original 160 compressor - they add that "knock" to drums like nothing else

The X had jack sockets only, but the XT and A have balanced outputs on XLRs and jack, plus slightly revised output circuitry. There's more audible difference between the A and the earlier models than between an X and an XT, but there's not much in it
