The IPSO Complaints Committee has openings for two Lay Members to consider and issue rulings on complaints. We regulate most newspapers, magazines and affiliated news websites in the UK.
The Complaints Committee meets 8-10 times per year to discuss and make decisions on complaints raised under the Editors’ Code of Practice.
This is an opportunity to be part of a fascinating and challenging process. Applicants should be interested in press standards and the process of balancing freedom of expression with other rights of individuals, along with outstanding analytical skills and verbal and written communication skills.
They need not have any specialist knowledge of regulation or experience of panel work. IPSO is seeking candidates whose experiences and perspectives will complement the variety of those currently represented within the Committee.
Remuneration for Committee members is £1,225.00 per month plus reasonable expenses to attend Committee meetings when required. https://www.ipso.co.uk/what-we-do/vacancies/
The Editors’ Code of Practice Committee is looking for a new lay member – someone with no professional experience of the newspaper or magazine industry, but an interest in editorial standards.
The Editors’ Code of Practice is the foundation of independent press regulation in the UK. It is reviewed by the Editors' Code of Practice Committee, which has lay members as well as editors representing the national and regional newspaper and magazine industry.
The Committee is recruiting a new independent lay panel member to join its work in writing and reviewing the Editors’ Code, the set of standards IPSO enforces.
They will join IPSO’s Chair, Chief Executive and two other independent lay members to represent the public on the Committee, alongside 10 senior serving editors. They need not have any specialist knowledge, but should have a particular interest in press standards.
The Committee usually meets twice a year reimbursed at £250.00 per half day. The closing date for this vacancy is 16 June 2023. Click here to find out more: https://www.ipso.co.uk/what-we-do/vacancies/
