Greens Health Store quits the High Street after 113 years

In 1910 Mrs Nora Green, an early pioneer of what was called the Food Reformist Movement, began supplying like-minded friends with wholefood ingredients from her kitchen cupboard. Over the next 113 years Greens Health Store became one of the longest established shops in the city serving generations of Lincoln people.

Despite health and fitness being such an important part of our modern world, when the St Mary St based shop was put up for sale due to the current owner retiring, no viable offers were received. This left no choice but to announce the closure of the popular retail store with the threat that the business and it's long tradition of quality and service would be lost forever.

However an 11th hour offer has been accepted for the brand name, the goodwill, allowing the business to continue accepting orders from local customers online and by phone for local delivery, with personal service and special requests a pleasure.

Jeremy Heath, the new owner, has a long association with the store, having worked there from being a schoolboy and later co-owner with his father, Bill Heath during the 80's and 90's.

"Although we were unfortunately too late to save the retail shop, I'm pleased to announce the core business is in safe hands and will continue" said Jeremy. "We need a little time to re-jig the business into it's new format which will be sustainable long into the future and allow it to thrive once again".

Customers will very soon be able to shop online with free local delivery, with options including friendly telephone ordering for those of a less technical disposition. "We must make full use of today's technology, whilst providing plenty of other options for those who prefer, especially the older customers many of whom have been regular customers for decades".

The business plans to be fully operational again within a few days and can be contacted here:

Council slow to clear blocked drain in popular city centre passageway.

Christmas shoppers and traders alike are dismayed to see a popular cut through flooded with rainwater for over a week despite the problem being reported using the fixmystreet system.

The blocked drain in Akrill's Passage which runs beside the Iceland store and links Tentercroft St Car Park with the High Street has meant the route has become a no go zone for anyone not wearing the stoutest of footwear.

"The city centre is in direct competition with online retailers for the Christmas spend, is this really how we want to welcome visitors to our city?" said a local trader who asked not to be named.

Debate erupts in Washingborough over new Sainsbury's store proposal

Residents in Washingborough have taken to social media to make their views known about a proposed new Sainsburys store in the village. Over 800 comments have been added to the local community group serving the village with a wide range of views expressed.

The 10,000sqft store proposal will be submitted to North Kesteven Distruct Council shortly, meanwhile Sainsburys have already been criticised for the design of their questionnaire aimed at gathering public opinion. One local resident branded the questions as 'divisive and manipulative, designed to engender a positive response to the proposal'. Make your own mind up, and have your say here:

It's a debate that will continue for some time and one we'll watch with interest.
