I've almost completed my van and thought I'd treat you all to a van tour along with some footage of my most recent excursion to the Peak District.

Who has some questions about the van?

Come with me as I go van camping in the Peak District. Plus I give you a sneak peek tour of my van as it's 70% complete. This was such a fun little excursion...

On day 1 of our Lake District tour, we parked next to Derwent Water. Parking was a nightmare as so many people were visiting over the bank holiday weekend.

We headed up onto Maiden Moor to enjoy lunch with a picturesque view. The weather was beautifully sunny, the breeze was fresh, and I wore a T-shirt for the first time this year.

We hiked over the Moors and back down to the vans. Heading back towards Keswick, we found a flat stretch of road to park up for the night. From our parking, we could access the lake shore and drop down in the evening to enjoy a fire by the lake.

It was a magical first day. We were all excited about the following day's hike. I will post about it within the next few days with another set of photos.

There is nothing quite like being sat around a campfire with your friends.

If only we had a guitar and s’mores. We would’ve been the idealistic American campfire dream.

We used a portable fire pit for the first night in the Lake District and I have to say that now, I NEED one. It left no trace, didn’t burn the ground nor posed any serious threat to anything. I can really see myself using this on future camps.

I will be posting more from our trip this week. But if you have any questions let me know. This photo was taken next to Derwent Water, Lake District.

I can’t wait for those summer nights to come calling again. There’s nothing quite like hiking up into the mountains to watch the sun set late with your friends.

Then the stars or moon comes out and you can just chill, chat, watch films together. But most importantly you’re just chilling in nature. Pure bliss.

Just wait to see the drone footage near the end.

Check out my latest winter camping adventure, where Alex and I wild camp near Durdle Door on the South West Coast path, Dorset. What a place to camp as well....

I took this snap a while back and forgot to post it. I love birds of prey shows. They allow you to get right up close and personal and this absolute beauty was a right poser.

Where is your favourite place to travel when it snows?

Mine is the Peak District. Mainly because I know a lot of really cool places to go. But also because usually you can get some pretty special photos of people climbing on top of things.

These two guys scaled to the top of Alport Castles and then started flying their drones. Epic.

Two bros on a van adventure

I’ll be posting the video to this van adventure in the next few weeks. But to summarise…

We nearly crashed on black ice, parked in a lay-by, saw an all day cloud inversion, hiked back in -7 degrees C, drove to a new location, took some Astro photos, slept in the vans and woke up to ice on the inside of both vans.

It was quite an adventure and I think you know what thumbnail of the video will be. 📸

Ever seen a sunset cloud inversion? ☀️☁️🤔

I thought not.

I have never seen such scenes all day. and I hiked across Froggart edge to Curbar Edge in the Peak Dsitrct whilst a full all day cloud inversion was going on. We couldn’t believe our luck and managed to shoot at sunset on the Edge.

This weekend, Alex and I ventured out into the Peak District on an icy and bitterly cold day. Whilst driving we saw that there was a cloud inversion in the next valley over, so we decided to go and investigate.

It turns out that there was a cloud inversion for about 12 hours next to Curbar edge.

It was a beautiful day, made even more so by the fact that we both chase cloud inversions and always managed to miss them by a day or so. This one did not disappoint and allowed us to capture photos throughout the day, even late into golden hour.

The photo pictured above was taken on a Sony, 70-200mm lens. At about 1/1000 of a second at 100 ISO.

Using the cloud inversion, I was able to single out details in the mist like the trees on this hill above.

Light in the dark

There’s so much chaos around at the moment in the news. I’ve been feeling fairly overwhelmed and helpless with it all. So recently I’ve stripped out looking at the news or anything doom and gloom. Instead I’ve been researching places to go at the weekend, including places to wild camp and take the van.

I find a weekend away in nature totally resets my brain and all the work week rubbish fades away.

One of my favourite places at the moment is the Ladybower reservoir. The surrounding woodland is beautiful and in parts evergreen.

The light in the storm

On my most recent wild camp I was expecting nothing but rain, wind and cold. But, somehow I still managed to see this sunset through the storm clouds. Not to say that is wasn’t cold.

Don’t you love when the weather totally surprises you?!

Tonight I’ve got another wild camp video dropping on my YouTube. This by far one of the windiest and wettest camps I’ve videoed. I actually was testing my new OEX sleeping bag out. Safe to say I was plenty warm enough.

Absolute luxuries looking at the stars outside of my van. I took this photo whilst lying in bed in the van last weekend. It felt so crazy to be able to feel my hands and take in such beauty.

This year my dad propositioned a new project. He has asked me to take photos of 12 incredible trees. It's more of a long-term goal. To be undertaken over a year or two.

It's exciting to start a big new project like this. After a few adventures, I hadn't found any trees that I felt were worthy of this cause. Until. On my most recent trip to the Peak District. I happened to stumble upon a beautiful spectacle.

Right within the depths of the pine forests around the Ladybower Reservoir, this tree stood. Strong and true. Yellow and proud. With whisps of cloud and fog rolling all around, I grabbed my camera and started snapping photos.

Let me introduce you to number 1.

The views from the last wild camp were crazy. I’m off again this weekend. Hoping to film another little vlog of my wild camp and hopefully entice more of you out all year round.

Honestly, I’ve been feeling out of sorts and think I just need some time back in the wild. I’m not too bothered about going by myself. I think sometimes if you don’t have the friends free to come along then you should just go yourself.

The peaks are pretty good for wild camps and the weather forecast is really hit and miss for the weekend. But I figure if I take the van and it all goes t**s up then I can just sleep in the van twice. It’s a win win.

Golden sunsets on Kinder Scout are the best. I can’t wait to get out in my campervan. If you’ve been following along you’ll know that I can start to take out my van and hopefully survive some pretty cold nights.

I’ve also upgraded my sleeping kit for wild camping. So will be going for a pretty chilly camp in Snowdonia soon.
