Stephen Gill has brought his remarkable chapter at Southwell Fire Station to a close after proudly serving as an on-call firefighter since March 2002, retiring this October!🔥👨‍🚒

Over more than two decades on the run, Steve has protected and rescued countless people across Southwell and the wider Nottinghamshire area, always stepping forward when the pager went off – day, night, Christmas, New Year and even birthdays, no questions asked.

Steve has consistently gone above and beyond throughout his career, giving his community the sort of dedication you simply can’t teach. After 22 years of service, he’s more than earned the chance to put his feet up and enjoy a long, happy retirement.🏖❤

Think you could be like Steve? Southwell Fire Station needs new on-call firefighters. Serve your community, learn real skills, and be part of a proud local crew. The role is flexible, paid and built around your normal job and life.

The festive season should be one of joy. Yet for many families, Christmas will be spent facing the fear and uncertainty of having a seriously ill child in hospital.

At The Sick Children's Trust, they make sure families can stay together during their child’s most critical moments. But the charity cannot do it alone - they urgently need your support to keep more families together this Christmas.❤️‍🩹

Without their ‘Homes from Home’, families would face an average of 82 minutes of travel each day to be by their child’s hospital bedside, or be forced to sleep in hospital chairs, expensive hotels that they can’t afford, or even in their cars.

Families like Frances and Jack experienced this first-hand when their baby son, Milo (pictured), developed life-threatening sepsis. They stayed with the charity at the Acorn House ‘Home from Home’ for ten days while Milo received specialist care at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

Frances said: “We can’t describe how grateful we are to have had that vital support.

“After making a full recovery Milo is now a happy, thriving eight-month-old. We’re really looking forward to celebrating Milo’s first Christmas, which is even more special when we think about how critically ill he was.”
