An incredible concert recording. ‘These Are The Days (Live in France)’ from Uncle Bard & The Dirty Bastards, captures one of Europe’s favourite – and most raucous – live bands. To acknowledge the band’s Celtic influences, the album is released on St Patrick’s Day (17th March 2023).

This was recorded in August 2022 at the Tribal Rock festival, Peymenade, Apes Mantime, France: by kind permission of the promotor Rang Marc La Ros. Features Pat McManus on the final encore track on violin.

NEW RELEASE! WASTE DOWN REBELS Mercies and Curses

Feat: Rick Ayers, Steve Blaze of Lillian Axe & Virus of Dope.

The writing process for Waste Down Rebels’ upcoming album entitled: “Mercies and Curses” began in early months of 2020. The owner, guitarist and songwriter of Waste Down Rebels – Rick Ayers, had the music for a few complete tracks demo’d and reached out to Steve Blaze from Lillian Axe to see if he would be interested in tracking vocals and writing lyrics.

This all began to unfold at the start of the COVID pandemic so time was in our favour to see how things might progress and if the synergy between parties transpired.

“Listening to the first track Steve wrote for the album, I (Rick) instantly knew this was the direction I wanted to go for a complete collection that became 12 tracks. During the writing process I had the opportunity to work closely with the musician known as VIRUS from the band DOPE. Virus played a key role in my song writing for numerous tracks that are on the album”.

By the end of 2020, the album was complete.

MATTHEW FISHER EXTENDS ASSOCIATION WITH ANGEL AIR

We are absolutely delighted that Matthew Fisher has agreed to extend his association with Angel Air Records.

Matthew Fisher is a Hammond organist, singer-songwriter, musical arranger, producer and the man who composed the enduring classic organ melody for the 1967 hit single A Whiter Shade of Pale.

He is a founder member of the band, Procol Harum. In addition to establishing Procol Harum’s signature sound with his distinctive Hammond organ playing style (which he describes as “Bach meets Booker T & the MGs”), he frequently contributed to the band’s first three albums as a composer, beginning with the band’s first album, the self-titled Procol Harum, for which he composed the haunting instrumental work Repent Walpurgis.

Matthew’s musical credentials soon brought him guest performances with fellow musicians, including the Move, Joe Cocker and David Bowie (the concert at the Rainbow Theatre in 1972).

Matthew went on to write and record as a solo artist with albums Journey’s End (1973), I’ll Be There (1974), the self-titled, Matthew Fisher (1979) and Strange Days (1980). A collection of musical ideas he recorded “for fun” in his own 24 track studio was released under the title A Salty Dog Returns which is available on Angel Air (SJPCD389) as is Matthew Fisher / Strange Days CD (SJPCD510).

Along with many other talented musicians involved with our label we re-welcome Matthew and look forward to our continued relationship.

ANGEL AIR RE-WELCOMES ROBIN GEORGE!

Angel Air are delighted to re-welcome Robin George to an extended period of contract to the label. Apart from the existing albums available on the label (and web site) Robin has brought with him a further batch of albums that will be available soon on all digital stores and a brand new album, Dangerous Daze that will be released on CD later this year.

Robin George has worked with many more artists and projects than most realise, and during the ‘80s he built up a name for himself as a guitar player, musician, producer, songwriter and solo artist.

Robin had teamed up with Pete Haycock and the core members of the LovePower and Peace sharing album to reform a true supergroup. The band also features Mel Collins (The Rolling Stones/ Eric Clapton), Charlie Morgan (Elton John/ Kate Bush), Jacquie Williams (Sister Sledge/ M People) and Charlie Charlesworth (Dangerous Music). The superb album, Broke Heart Blues was mixed by award winning sound engineer, Klaus Bohlmann, the beginning of a long term partnership with Robin which continues to this day. Klaus has since mixed and mastered 9 albums for Robin.

Dangerous Music 2 was also released on Angel Air. Produced by Gus Dudgeon, Robin and Daniel, it features Pino Palladino, Daniel Boone, Charlie Morgan and Chris Thompson.

Robin’s recent projects include producing the sharing project, LovePower and Peace, which features over sixty artists from the worlds of Rock, Blues, Soul and Pop who all donated their time and talents. 100% of all profits go directly to three worthwhile charities. The project features, amongst others, members of Alice Cooper, AC/DC, UFO, Asia, Diamond Head, Motorhead, Uriah Heep, Duran Duran, Mott the Hoople, Marshall Law, the Climax Blues Band as well as solo artists Ruby Turner, Arthur Brown, Jaki Graham, Charlie George, Freya Copeland and Vix Fuzzbox.

Then came Lockdown. Robin spent ‘Rockdown’ recording & mastering 9 albums, aided and abetted by Charlie Morgan and Klaus Bohlmann, which Angel Air Records is now releasing. An Asia 2 CD/DVD is waiting in the wings along with Robin George and Glenn Hughes Sweet Revenge album ready for an official release. There are more eagerly awaited CDs hot off the press, Robin George & Roxstar Legends.

NEW RELEASE! LARRY CORYELL Live at The Sugar Club, Dublin Ireland – 2016

Larry Coryell: Guitar virtuoso, performer and composer of jazz and jazz- rock. Master of guitar improvisation, known in the jazz world as the “Godfather of Fusion”. Larry’s highly acclaimed improvised guitar stylings and compositions positioned him as one of the first innovators of the jazz-rock fusion movement in the late 1960s.

A true legend and well established in the history books of jazz music, Larry knew and played with many of the well known jazz and rock greats of the 20th and 21st Centuries such as Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Chet Atkins, Chico Hamilton, Gary Burton, Chick Corea and Miles Davis. Larry’s “Last Swing in Ireland” was his last visit to the Emerald Aisle and he made a lasting impression at Hellfire Studios and The Sugar Club with his favourite Irish rhythm section, Kevin Brady and Dave Redmond in May of 2016. They rock and they swing and everything in between.

In 1976, J.J. Barrie knocked Abba off the number one spot in the charts with ‘No Charge’. This song featured a strong message of a mother’s love and has become a classic, being featured time and time again on major compilations. His awareness of the world’s problems relating to climate change and pollution, and his visit to the neighbourhood where he spent his youth, prompted him to write a song hoping to increase awareness.

The new single ‘Who Told The Band To Pack?’ is a song that is close to J.J. Barrie’s heart and is aimed at global issues, but also at encouraging us to think about what is important right now.

NEW RELEASE! J.J. BARRIE Who Told The Band To Pack

New single from ‘No Charge’ singer.

‘Who Told The Band To Pack’ from J.J. Barrie will be released as a digital single through Angel Air on 18 February 2022. This new track features on a forthcoming album entitled ‘Remember’.

In 1976, J.J. Barrie knocked Abba off the number one spot in the charts with ‘No Charge’. This song featured a strong message of a mother’s love and has become a classic, being featured time and time again on major compilations. His awareness of the world’s problems relating to climate change and pollution, and his visit to the neighbourhood where he spent his youth, prompted him to write a song hoping to increase awareness.

JJ, or to give him his real name of Barry Authors, has had a lifetime in the entertainment industry. As a young man he formed a bizarre comedy team, Authors & Swinson, with a school friend. They were an instant success, touring the world, including the Palace, New York, The London Palladium and The Moulin Rouge in Paris.

In the 70s, he moved into management and agency, handling many top artists, including Blue Mink, Norman Wisdom, Roger Cook. This led him to creating his own label with Chapel Music, recording many of his artists. During this period, he discovered a gift for songwriting and wrote ‘Where’s the Reason’ with Terry Britten, Cliff Richard’s guitar player. He recorded a demo, added strings and took it to the board at Chapel Music. Hearing their praise, and asked who this new artist was, he stammered “J.J. Barrie” as his both son and his Dad’s name were Jeff. When asked if the artist was signed to the label, he admitted that he was the singer. J.J. Barrie was born.

‘Where’s the Reason’ was released in 1975 and immediately hit the charts. However, there were complaints from BMI, stating that it was over-hyped and it was removed. JJ was disappointed but his next single proved to be ‘No Charge’!

JJ went on to release six albums and many singles – including ‘You Can’t Win Them All’ with Brian Clough. He then began a career in the film business and developed a movie that he had written: ‘Meeshee the Water Giant’. The film was well received, described by The Guardian as, “An adventure in the Spielbergian mould.”

Music remained his true love though, as this new single and album prove. ‘Who Told The Band To Pack’ is a song that is close to J.J. Barrie’s heart and is aimed at global issues, but also at encouraging us to think about what is important right now.
