Out today!!! To commemorate the 40th anniversary of Michal Turtle's pioneering 1983 album "Music From The Living Room" Invisible Inc is proud to present "Same Songs, Different Room" - a contemporary reimagining of the original album featuring both original and new collaborators.

The album is released digitally on bandcamp today, after which it will appear on other digital platforms on the 29th....and finally since records are slightly delayed to arrive we will be shipping vinyl preorders on 8th January. Records will reach shops later that week too. Exciting!

Which means it's apt to share with you this little story that Michal sent me a few weeks back:
"In the 80s I used to keep a diary! Found it while looking for something else, and read that on 16 December 1983 I went to the Shout Records in Acton to pick up my first 5 copies of "Music From the Living Room.” There was no official release date as such. A few days later I got my 4 boxes of 25 to do with what I want. The rest (400) went into distribution. So we seem to be 40 years near as dammit to the day with the new version!!!"

Cosmic synchronicity or what?

For those of you who have no idea of what relevance this is, "Music From The Living Room" is Michal Turtle's classic, dare I say "cult", album from 1983, selling upwards of €300 on discogs. It's rare as hen's teeth these days. To mark its 40th anniversary Michal decided, instead of just doing a straightforward reissue, to record a "reimagined" version, featuring original and new collaborators, which became "Same Songs, Different Room".

It goes without saying that it's an honour to be releasing this music by such a hugely influential musician right here on Invisible Inc.

Those eagle-eyed collectors amongst you will have spotted a framed "copy" of the original album mounted on the wall in the artwork of the new version.....seemed the perfect way to depict the connection to its forebear!

I'm extremely happy to welcome to the label an artist whose unique and influential music has made him a deeply respected name around the world. The artist in question is Michal Turtle and his style and vision, taking in percussion, experimentalism, looping, dub, ambient, alternative/wave and sound synthesis to create otherworldly sonic tapestries, is unlike much else out there.
We proudly present to you: "Same Songs, Different Room"; a contemporary reconstruction/reimagining of Turtle's 1983 classic "Music From The Living Room" to mark the 40th anniversary of that seminal release. Head to link in bio for audio clips, glowing reviews and further info

The 4th showcase from the recent Mondo Organico compilation is this track by Puma & The Dolphin. The track was originally featured on the digital only "Phantom Impulses" EP earlier this year and differed in mood and atmosphere from the EP's other three tracks. I felt it deserved a home on vinyl, and Mondo Organico seemed the perfect setting

The third instalment showcasing music from the recent Mondo Organico compilation comes from Pieter K**k. "Untitled #4" is one of two "reissue tracks" on the compilation, this one appearing originally on the cassette "Flocks & Murders of Entitled Spirits" cassettes in 2021. We felt it needed to be made available on vinyl and reach more ears than it already had. It's the compilation's closing track and is a piece of mesmerising beauty, providing a perfect conclusion to the entire release. It's a track in which you get easily lost for 7 and a half minutes in a dreamlike suspension of reality as it meanders through a repeated bass melody with pads and synths helping you drift along. So pleased to have been able to feature this track. I'm sure you will enjoy it too.

If you're local and want to save yourself some postage costs, copies of these four beauties have just been dropped off at monorail music a short while ago. Note the appearance of long out of print copies of the Jon Keliehor album. These were picked up directly from Jon a couple of months ago and are now finally where they were intended to be delivered. Rubadub are also stocking the three most recent of these releases so if you're in the city centre you know where to go!

Good morning one and all,

It's Bandcamp Friday today!!

Here life is slowly being pieced back together after a week in France for Convenanza Festival which is always a very special occasion - lovely people, amazing music, an unparalleled setting. I would love to write an essay about it...but here is not the place! However, I will mention that one musical moment of joyous elation was Chloé playing Immaculate Rivombo's "Soudani (Drum Dance)" during her closing set b2b with Ivan Smagghe on the Saturday night. It's a jaw-harp-driven rhythmic trance workout from 2016....and it's a good feeling to know it still lives!! If you're unfamiliar with it then check it out:
invisible-inc.bandcamp.com/album/psychic-bridge-from-bujumbura

Good vibes are spreading around the Mondo Organico compilation too, which was featured in Bandcamp's 'Best Electronic Music of September 2023'. Much respect to Joe Muggs for including it in his monthly selection...always top recommendations in there:

If you missed it, copies are running low, so get one while you can:

Lastly, if you ordered the reprint/repress of the Time Tone Texture Vol. 1 cassette which turned out to be either blank or in mono, I just picked up a second tape machine yesterday so will be dubbing these today. Sorry to keep you waiting. Still one copy available to a good home:

OK...I think that's all 🙂

Today is release day of the latest Invisible, Inc. record....a six track compilation LP of meditative rhythms and melodies, leaning towards the more "organic" side of the label's output (à la Jon Keliehor, Komodo Kolektif, Peter Power, Laraaji etc). "Mondo Organico" brings together six artists that the label has been enthralled with lately and gives them a home on this concept compilation. Featuring the talents of Andi Otto (Germany) and his fello (a customised electronic cello), the ethereal vocals of Anna vs June (Greece), the ritualistic mantra rhythms of Tyler Ov Gaia (Italy), an 8-minute long bass and guitar psych odyssey courtesy of Pieter K**k (Netherlands/Germany), as well as label favourites Sordid Sound System (California) and Puma & The Dolphin (Bulgaria), the record is enthralling and mesmerizing from start to finish. You will want to flip it over when you reach the end...and start all over again. Plus it's pressed on eco vinyl so about as green as you can get for something made of plastic....and is available from all good record stores and bandcamp. 300 hand-numbered units only.

Now here's an interesting rediscovery made while rummaging around the Invisible Inc archives. Please read on because it gets interesting. At first glance these may look like amateur photoshops of records. Well, one part is correct, they ARE representative of records, but what their real purpose is, is as cutting diagrams for a mastering/cutting engineer at the pressing plant. The record in question is of course the log(m) & Laraaji 3xLP that was released in 2019. What you're seeing (aside from the obvious distinctions of where each track is located) are instructions to the cutting engineer of where the 10 or so "eternal opuscules" should be placed. These are rhythm or loop grooves (marked in red in the diagrams) mathematically calculated to be at a speed that means they will play seamlessly infinitely as the needle goes round the groove. Some of these grooves are single grooves sat by themselves in the vinyl, others are locked grooves that are entered from regular "spiral" grooves, meaning there is an opening that is entered from the spiral leading into the loop. It's super complex and if you were following the label back in 2019 you may remember the pressing plant misunderstood the instructions and the first test pressings were all wrong and needed recut. It was quite a stressful process between artist, plant, label getting it right. Luckily second time was perfect. And to state the obvious none of this can possibly be ever done digitally. For those of you who have copies of this record and haven't found the unlisted "secret" groove, check out the 5th picture and note the text at the top. Bingo! That groove is hidden one groove width from another locked groove. Unfortunately these diagrams are not mobile friendly and even on a large desktop computer you need to zoom in in order to see the gap between the two locked grooves. Even in reality when holding the vinyl it's pretty hard to see so feeling for it with the needle is the way to do it. Now you all know! Have fun finding those grooves

Earthquake appeal

Dear all,

I've decided to put on an impromptu flash sale for all of this week to raise funds towards aid in northern Syria, specifically to be sent to Edinburgh Direct Aid, a small but highly respected charity (google it and you'll see what comes up) run by a group of very dedicated people, some of them well into their 90s, who have people on the ground there already assisting. Please have a look at their website to see what they do: www.edinburghdirectaid.org/leadin.htm
And read about how they are assisting on the ground here: www.peoplesfundraising.com/fundraising/syria-earthquakes-emergency-appeal

In that respect, I have created a discount code which will give you a 40% discount on everything. Yes, everything. Vinyl, digital, totes, prints etc. That code will be active until Friday. The code is: eda2023

All sales coming in this time will be split as usual (50% artists, 50% label) and my 50% label share will go to the charity.

Please make use of the code and fill those gaps in your collection while helping a good cause.

Thanks

GKxx

Album of the Day: TAGLIABUE - Un' Altra Forma Di Vibrazioni (Invisible, Inc.)

*From the Favourite Albums of 2022 list: https://theatticmag.com/features/2444/favourite-albums-of-2022.html

"A conceptual release with all nine tracks connected to one another like a cosmic web. It feels like a journey through the history of electronica but not necessarily nostalgic. Imagine if the photos from the James Webb telescope were somehow translated into music; it is like looking back in time but from a totally different angle and understanding of the past, thus giving new meaning to more established sounds. Very soothing and easy listening, with some tracks that could fit in a multitude of contexts, from driving to clubbing and so on." Picked by Gabriel Leașcu

Very pleased to announce this one on the label. Out today is the new Puma & The Dolphin EP "Phantom Impulses". It's a pleasure to have another release from P&TD after the amazing success of the "Indoor Routine" 6-tracker in 2020. This follow-up EP has come into being in record time: from recording studio to mastering to artwork being finished to now being released is around a month!! So arguably one of the freshest releases you'll hear right now. 4 amazing cuts ranging from rhythmic and tribal to motorik and driving to emotive and downbeat....and as featured by Optimo on their recent show for Kiosk Radio. Check it out. Link to bandcamp in comments below
