Reflectric worked on Unicorns back in Autumn 2022. After a brief & successful cinema release in Summer 23 it’s finally on streaming this Sunday on Netflix.
Filmed interlay on location in Ilford Unicorns is a dazzling love story with some amazing performances

Firebrand was a joy & privilege to work on. Full of great performances, & even if we say so, stunning lighting & shots. The location Haddon Hall has some of the oldest glass windows in England (sadly not all survived) The diamond leaded glass windows are curved to always catch the reflecting rays of the sun during the day & have brown & green staining to allow the colours of the natural world to come into the room. Something that was taken into the lighting approch.

A little throwback to “Ruby Speaking” an ITV Sitcom Reflectric worked on in 2023 for Gaffer @caroslighting & DOP @oonamenges BSC. The whole shoot took place on the 1st floor of an unused office block. Oona wanted a mix of HMI & LED fixtures to utilise their different energies & feelings. A bank of 10 Sumospaces were rigged outside the windows augmented with Dedo 400D HMI & Dedo PB70s shining off CRLS Reflectors.

Nice way to light a promo using the PB70 and loads of small reflectors.
This is a handy piece of kit for portable power a hot swap box for the instgrids you can Daisy chain them together and swap them out without turning off lights!🌟
Our last post from the film “The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry”
Possibly the most rewarding thing for Reflectric on this project was getting to work with the incredibly talented DOP, Kate McCullough & GAFFER, Carolina Schmidtholstein. Witnessing how they worked, & came up with new ways of working with the Dedo PB70 & Light Bridge Reflectors.
On this scene an addition of a 4x4 Silk placed on its edge (usually positioned flat on in-front of the the light-source) in-between the PB70 & a 1M x 1M Reflector Diff. It allowed for the most subtle manipulation of the light. We had perviously used the PB70 & 1M Reflectors as ‘broad brushes’ in our lighting tools. We had never considered the possibilities they offer as more subtle addition to the look & feel of the scene. A real learning experience for us.

Accent lighting with reflectors is a lovely way to add little punch areas to a single source of light.
On this set up on the feature film 'The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry' we added a natural looking sun streak of light to a background wall by placing a 50x50 number 2 reflector inside a 1x1 metre No3 reflector
Gaffer Carolina Schmidtholstein crafted the light into the wall whilst we were outside up the ladder touching the smaller reflector into place.
Dedolights mini reflector systems are brilliant for doing pack shots
You can build a studio in a small space and with the tiny Dedo ledzillas and their mirrors and reflectors start producing beautiful shots of small objects
We are building one ourselves that can be transported to commercial shoots... after the feature we are currently om wraps.
Essential bits of kit are the rail and the Dedolight 2.0 projector attachment that fits the dled 7 and the classic Dedolight and gives you amazing precision with tiny pools of light.
Also the new grip is amazing... lookout for Dedo's quintoplis clamps which you can attach 5 arms/ reflectors to.
This video is from the Dedolight conference which we gave a talk to at back in August.
The Matthews air climber is a brilliant stand for reflectors.
We managed to rig to Cream source Vortex's and the 1x1 No3 reflector up at 25ft
The air powered stand is easy to use and can be panned form the ground it's also way to move around much quicker than a genie boom plus you don't need a rigger to operate it
So we are attending the Dedolight agents meeting in in Munich this week
Speaking about the last two features we worked on and generally meeting, learning and seeing some amazing new kit
This is a table top setup we love
So Dedo in his wisdom gave us this Dedo ledzilla battery light with an Paralell beam intensifier attachment (pbi)
We use this with his Lightstream Lite reflectors with their bendy arm's
The PBI,'s are are a lens that creates a hotspot in which to place the reflector and the whole set up is handy for hard to rig places like this bust up old house.
