The move to secondary school brings many potential changes for our young people - for example, different classrooms and children, a range of new subjects and teachers and a change of travel arrangements. We have a range of resources designed to help with preparing for these changes and reduce any anxiety that children may experience.
Our popular 'Talking About Secondary School’ is available as an online resource for use on PCs and laptops (it may also be purchased as a mobile app via the Apple Store) Designed for children who are about to move to Secondary School, or who have already transferred and require additional support with the transition. The resource allows children to discuss common situations and difficulties that may arise in Secondary School, as our young people deal with the extra social demands and complicated routines. Children discuss 14 large pictures which illustrate 14 different situations relevant to their experiences at school (eg mixing
with older children at the bus stop; forgetting your homework; packing your school bag).
Each scenario is followed by response pictures which illustrate ways of behaving which will encourage discussion about the ‘right’ thing to do and prompt students to make their own suggestions.
The 'Talking About Secondary School’ online resource allows the user to record the students’ responses and discussions and play them back. This makes it ideal for role play and ‘rehearsal’ of social conversations.
