Madagascar the Musical! 🦁🐧

“What a spectacular performance! It was funny, captivating and the sets and costumes were bursting with colour.

The vocals were brilliant ⭐️ From the penguins to Alex the Lion we found it hard to choose our favourite. King Julian had the whole theatre belly laughing.

The children were absolutely mesmerised! I found myself dancing in my seat. Thank you Aylesbury Waterside Theatre for a wonderful evening with the children.

It's a must see and on until Saturday 18th November.”

My very good friend and colleague went to review Take That’s Greatest Days for me this week at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre as little Millie is still too little for me ti leave her for a whole evening! I have to say I was a bit gutted to miss this one as I LOVED Take That!

Check out her review here👇🏼

Greatest Days really is a an uplifting, heart-warming and hilarious story which focuses on a group of five best school friends in the 1990s who are obsessed with their favourite boy band. They get to see the band in Manchester, then they are faced with tragedy and end up going their separate ways. Twenty plus years pass and they are reunited.

This isn’t a tribute act musical, it does feature more than 15 record-breaking Take That songs but it also is a great story with some excellent acting. It’s funny, emotional and uplifting. It stars Jennifer Ellison best known as Emily Shadwick in Brookside, and now returning to the stage after acclaimed performances in Chicago, Legally Blonde and Calendar Girls.

It had great energy and some great dancing and has that ‘feel good’ factor.

This isn’t just for Take That fans, it’s an enjoyable experience for all!

The touring show is on at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre from Tuesday 7th to Saturday 11th November.

Book tickets here https://www.atgtickets.com/shows/greatest-days/aylesbury-waterside-theatre/

Other shows coming up at .theatre include:

Madagascar the Musical
The full Monty
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfes pantomime!

Buckingham’s new, free, public art trail is now live!

You can now find and admire ten selfie sized painted swan sculptures each with their own story to share when you visit Buckingham this summer 🦢

Bringing colour and fun to the town, the Swan Trail is on now and will run for ten weeks, finishing on September 3rd, offering everyone an enjoyable day out during the school holidays.

Each swan has kindly been sponsored by local businesses, organisations and The Buckingham & Villages Community Board and lovingly painted by school children, artists, and the community.

Competition!

Displayed at every swan location you will find a plaque with the name of the swan, artist and sponsor and QR codes for Buxplore. There is also a hidden letter written on the plaque.

To be in with a chance of winning £100 to spend in a local Buckingham shop you will need to find all the hidden letters. The hidden letters make up a ten letter phrase. Post your entry in the special box at Buckingham Tourist Information Centre or via email: [email protected].

All correct answers will be entered into a prize draw and one winner will be chosen and notified on the same day.

Closing date is September 4th, 2023, at 12 noon.

🎶 Heathers the Musical 🎶

On Tuesday even I took my niece to see one of the best theatre productions around! Do you remember the 80’s cult movie Heathers?

Heathers follows the twisted relationship between lead characters Veronica Sawyer and Jason Dean, known to all as JD.

Veronica is struggling her way through high school as a nobody, desperate for acceptance from the in-crowd, namely the three Heathers and their leader Heather Chandler. After new kid JD arrives at Westerberg High, sweeping Veronica off her feet, things take a turn for the worst. JD plunges Veronica into a dark world of murder, su***de and lies, as he delivers his own take on justice on the high school bullies😳

The story, although dark, unfolds with a heavy dose of comedy. While it is a high-energy black comedy, the show opens conversations about dark issues, including bullying, teen su***de, sexual assault, and violence in schools.

Press night went off with a bang, the theatre was full and the story was so captivating! Everything from the cast, the music, the vocals and the acting was insanely good. The evening ended with a very well deserved standing ovation! Check out the video!

It’s showing at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre until Saturday and I would highly recommend trying to get a ticket if you can!

So It has been a LONG time since I did one of these, but felt it was necessary as we have had some new followers lately (thank you!) and I haven’t been posting as much as I should be 🙈

My name’s Laura and together with my husband Neil, we are Community Contact Magazine. Neil is my designer and I generally do everything else!

Back in 2014 we decided to trial a pilot magazine in Twyford, to see if it might be something local people want 🧐

We have always been passionate about supporting local businesses and wanted to create something that these businesses, small, medium or large, could all use to market themselves to the local area at an affordable price.

The pilot was a success, so we decided to create a bi-monthly magazine that would go out to Buckingham, Winslow and the surrounding villages and that would bring the community together, hence our name – Community Contact Magazine.

Over the years, our local magazine has grown and now goes out to over 13,500 homes. We pride ourselves with an unrivalled advertising rate accessible to all. We offer standard advertising, front cover features, food reviews, editorials and more!

We have two little boys called Archie and George (6 & 3) a dog called Jasper, a cat called Binky and we live locally in the lovely little village of Gawcott.

We have recently launched a new monthly newsletter that is packed full of local businesses, offers, articles, recipes, competitions, and much more and would love for you all to sign up to it and it is absolutely free! 💕

We were lucky enough to be invited to watch The Demon Dentist at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre on Thursday night! I was slightly aphrensive about taking my 6 year old as I didn’t want to put him off going to the dentist for the rest of his life! But, despite a few scary moments, on the most part he was belly laughing because it was so funny!

Demon Dentist tells the story of Alife and his ‘not girlfriend’ Gabz as they investigate mysterious going-on in their small town. Children are waking up after leaving a tooth under their pillow to discover a multitude of disgusting things; fox tails, eye balls, even a toe nail instead of the traditional coins. At the same time, new dentist Miss Root arrives in town played by Emily Harrigan.

The highlight of the show for us all was the shopkeeper, Raj! We were told by our neice (who loves dwalliams books) that Raj features in all of his stories. He is effortlessly funny and made the adults in the audience laugh, as well as the children!

It has now finished showing at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre but will be showing at Milton Keynes Theatre later in March.

🎭 Up-coming shows at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre include:

🎸 The Commitments – opening night is tonight through until Saturday night (review impending!)

🧛🏼‍♂️ Buffy revamped – Friday 3rd – Saturday 4th February

🎤 90’s live tribute – Thursday 9th February

Ohh I can’t wait to go and watch Priscilla Queen of the Disaster at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre in March!

Join Susie, a mother of two boys as she shares her hilarious story of becoming a Mum, not knowing what she is doing and how she makes it through each day of parenting these two boys with no instructions. (I can totally relate! 😂)

Giggle along as Susie realises that parenting is nothing as she expected, highly unpredictable and nobody is getting it right, despite what social media might portray!

Whose coming with me? 🙋🏻‍♀️

Yoga 🧘🏼‍♀️

Hands up if you’ve tried yoga before? I’ve tried it many times but every time I either get confused between my left foot and my right hand etc etc and find it all so complicated it’s not relaxing and I end up not going back! (I also really struggle to relax due to being a busy working mum!!)

I’ve just been to my first yoga class with Aimee Newton Osteopathy and Yoga and together with the knowledge of the body (thanks to being a qualified osteopath) she’s given me the best first yoga class!

I’ve started my beginners yoga class course with Aimee today at the RestoreU based in Buckingham opposite the post office. It’s a four week course and I’m already looking forward to next Friday!

Thanks so much Aimee Newton Osteopathy and Yoga 💕

Our Story

Like many small business owners, my husband Neil and I (Laura) had a plan when we launched Community Contact Magazine, to help contribute towards our wedding in 2015. The very first pilot magazine was created in December 2014 and was just delivered in the village of Twyford.

We have always been passionate about supporting local businesses and wanted to create something that these businesses, small, medium or large, could all use to market themselves to the local area. The pilot was a success, so we decided to create a bi-monthly magazine that would go out to Buckingham, Winslow and the surrounding villages and that would bring the community together, hence our name – Community Contact.

After we got married, we soon went on to have our first baby (we love a busy life!) Whilst on maternity leave I made the decision to create a lifestyle that didn’t conform to the standard 9 to 5, but to work around being a mum, enjoying those early times with our little boy Archie that you just don’t get back if you miss them. Developing the magazine with a more manageable work / life balance was always an aim and I wanted the time and flexibility to create a magazine which champions local businesses, in particular offering small business owners an affordable, supportive platform to reach their customers.

Our magazine now goes out to over 8,500 homes in Buckingham, Winslow and many of the surrounding villages, with an unrivalled advertising rate accessible to all. We have recently launched our new website that has it’s very own business directory, a parent hub, articles, recipes, competitions, offers and much more.
