The basic principle of quality over quantity often gets lost in social media marketing. Under the intense pressure of MORE, MORE MORE, marketers forget their audiences are hungry for value, not volume.

Consider your content as the product of a machine, of which you are the operator.

You can keep feeding it rubbish and cranking that handle, but it's going to keep churning out a product that nobody wants in a continuous cycle.

If you take the time to get feedback, supply your machine with high-quality material your audience values, and give extra attention to the packaging and delivery, you can create something truly brilliant.

So take your foot off the pedal and ask yourself: "Am I plugging a hole in the content calendar or actually being strategic?"

When I first started freelancing in digital marketing over a decade ago, the idea of budgeting for social media was not really considered a thing. Business owners would say to me: “Social media is free, why would I budget for it?”

Thankfully, that (false) assumption has mostly changed as businesses have become wise to the huge amount of work and resources required to succeed in social.

But some of it still lingers 👃🏼

Social media marketing requires time, research, strategy, design, photography, videography, editing, copywriting, scheduling tools, campaign management, ongoing training, results analysis and community management. Then there are additional costs such as influencer fees and advertising.

Of course, you can go the DIY route to save costs. There are plenty of training courses out there you can take. I guess it depends on how much your time is worth.

Social media marketing is an investment. Cheap shortcuts lead to cheap results.

More traffic = more sales. That would be nice, wouldn't it? Don't be sucked in by anyone promising they can increase your website visitors by ### per cent from the get-go.

Your website visitors need to be the right people. If they're not your target audience and they're never going to convert, what’s the point? 🤷‍♀️

Challenge someone making these claims to explain the strategy they'll use to reach the right people and the messaging that will make them convert. Ask them what variables they will be testing and the process they'll use to measure and refine.

I'm mainly talking about ads here but it also applies to organic social, email marketing, SEO, etc.

It's not about numbers, it's about IMPACT and creating meaningful connections. The real win is sustainable growth, not quick traffic spikes.

So next time you're presented with a fancy graph showing a steep increase in website visitors, your reply should be "So, what?" The answer to that question is everything.

Introducing our new Marketing Assistant, Rosalie Ansell 👋

Rosalie graduated from Kingston Maurward College with an Equine Studies qualification in 2023 and enjoyed taking on some of the marketing tasks for the yard where her horse, Tiggy, is kept.

She created her own equine TikTok account to document her horse-riding activities that amassed close to 70,000 followers. This is how she discovered a talent for creating social media content that follows the latest trends and engages niche audiences.

Rosalie has a great eye for detail and is a very visual person with a talent for creating graphics. She is naturally a great communicator who is eager to learn, and we are excited to have her as part of the growing team.

Please give her a warm welcome 😊

Investing in my business with Beth Gregory at Folio CreativeCo. 📸 ✨ I first met Beth a few years ago, and I have admired her work ever since. She's incredibly talented, driven and savvy. It's taken me a while to invest with her, but I'm so glad I finally booked the shoot!

This means so much more than photos, though. I had a baby in 2021 and it's taken a bit for me to get some confidence back and feel like myself again. My business was 'ticking over' for a while. I wasn't looking for new clients, and I wasn't trying to grow. My focus was on juggling my existing workload while spending as much time as I could soaking up the magic of my gorgeous toddler.

Now though, with one child at school full-time and my last baby at preschool four days a week, things are changing. Since August, I've taken on my biggest client to date and paid for an unlimited membership to my local coworking space at Purple Office - Coworking Space.

Plus I have another exciting announcement that I’ll share with you tomorrow after I’ve told my current clients.

So thank you to everyone who's been on this journey with me. It's been such a brilliant 11 years and 3 months since I founded Lemon Squeezy Marketing, and I'm looking forward to the next chapter 🎉

Oh Grammarly, you are such a Scrooge! 🎅 Here I am, getting in the festive spirit for the opening line of an upcoming blog post, and you're stomping all over my baubles.

This is why tools like Grammarly should be used as a sidekick and not to run the show. It is useful for identifying genuine mistakes and prompting you to rephrase long, convoluted sentences, but it does get its tinsel in a twist when you try to sound remotely human.

When you get strategic about your content creation, you’ll produce better quality content and save yourself time in the long run 🙌

The simple three-step guide to speed up content creation we use is:
1. Plan
2. Repurpose
3. Automate

There's a whole article about this on the website that explains each step in great detail 👇

Just wonderful! Love this post by Aldi UK 👏

When Ollie’s mum got in touch on his birthday and showed us his amazing Aldi bag-themed cake, we immediately asked if we could adopt him. Unfortunately, supermarkets can’t do that - but we DID send him a little gift. 👀

10-year-old Ollie prefers Aldi to toy shops, and mum Kelsey says, “he’d go there every day if he could”. A boy after our own hearts. ❤️ He even wants to manage his own store one day!

Knowing his deep-rooted love for our shopping bags, we sent Ollie a box for his birthday that was BURSTING with limited editions. Including some from Germany, Scotland, and even one with his name on it!

We hope you love them and get to fill them with Specialbuys soon!

I’m *virtually* going to Atomicon. That is, I switched to a virtual ticket last week after swinging back and forth like The Grinch. Yes, no, yes, no, yes, no, YES! Gah! Definitely not.

It’s a long way to Newcastle from the South Coast, and my husband and I are temporarily down to one car. We live in a small Dorset village, and he needs the car for the school runs, so I would have relied solely on public transport.

That would mean getting a lift to the station, train to Bristol, flight to Newcastle, train to the city centre, staying in a hotel, then back again... you’re alright thanks. I’m still gutted not to be there as there are so many people going whom I’d love to meet in person, but it’s just not meant to be this year. Again 😅

Tomorrow, I’ll be taking in all the action from the comfort of my office/living room/garden/bed (wherever I decide to put myself) and trying to absorb some of the magic from 374 miles away.

Are you going? Let me know so I can live vicariously through your updates!

Skincare brand E45 and its creative agency T&Pm just released their Channel 4 Diversity in Advertising Award-winning campaign, "This Is Me, This Is My Space," which highlights the lived experiences of transgender people.

It is GIVING 👏

Industry-leading insight from Channel 4 has shown zero growth in representation, with LGBTQIA+ communities continuing to appear in just 3% of UK adverts.

There is so much to love about this. We need more of this kind of representation, normalisation, and awareness-raising.

The campaign has been backed by over £1 million worth of commercial advertising airtime across the Channel 4 network.

What do you think? Have you seen it yet?

21/05/2024

This is easily my new favourite advert, especially given my own recent car troubles 🚗 🤦🏼‍♀️

Because when your car breaks down, you're caked in mud, your door is taken out by a lorry, and you're struck by lightning, the last thing you feel like doing is laughing, but it's often the thing you need most.

This ad was created to promote Audible's lineup of comedy podcasts 🎧 What I love most about the message is the recognition that things can get tough, but we don't have to take life too seriously.

If you use Audible, what's in your library? Mine contains mostly non-fiction audiobooks and a severe lack of comedy that perhaps I should rectify...

I have received a certificate for my participation as an Official UN Women UK Delegate for the 68th session of the Commission on the Status of Women ( ) Volunteer. It was a fascinating and humbling experience to be part of.

At times, it was tough to stick to my (slightly naive) strategy of approaching sessions with the question: "What could I do to help?" Many issues faced by women today seem insurmountable, even by globally influential powers. I felt tiny as a small business owner and mum of two joining virtual sessions alone from a garden shed in West Dorset.

I am beyond excited to share this case study about my latest social media marketing work for Maria Galland Paris 👏

Maria Galland Paris approached me in August for social media strategy consulting, content planning and development, and campaign support. The marketing department was in a period of transition and needed expert guidance.

The marketing team had previously focused heavily on product benefits promotion in their social media marketing, and posts were often created in response to product launches without a specific social media strategy or plan.

With support and guidance from Lemon Squeezy Marketing, Maria Galland Paris was able to communicate its brand character and purpose more effectively on social media, connecting with its target audience through more meaningful content.

A consistent posting schedule created stability, and a varied content plan based on a solid strategy drove significant organic growth in followers and engagement.

As this project has just come to a natural close, I am looking for my next client to fill that space. Is it you?

Which one of these would catch your eye more in the feed? 🤳🏻

I’m updating Lemon Squeezy Marketing’s profile images across social media, replacing my headshot with the logo.

I use other professional profiles using my name on social media and I want to make the difference clearer to those who follow me on both.

My super fans, if you will 😉

So please comment YELLOW or GREEN with the one you think would stop the scroll 👇

It has been a transformative eight months working with the Maria Galland Paris international marketing team, bringing to life their new brand positioning and visual identity on social media.

Thank you for the wonderful testimonial, Beatrice Limouzineau 💛 I thoroughly enjoyed learning from you and Alexandra Brielles, and getting to the bones of what Maria Galland Paris stands for.

One of the biggest perks of working with an international company is getting to know colleagues around the world. I also loved seeing the diversity of content generated by influencers in Italy, Germany, France and Spain, united in support of Maria Galland Paris' movement for respectful skincare.

I am honoured that I was able to play a role in this transformation for Maria Galland Paris. Case study pending!
