Bookings for our launch week open tomorrow! 🫧💜

While the build has taken front and centre recently, we’ve been busy squirrelling away in the background planning in the schedule for our launch. Now the space is almost complete we’re so excited to share all the details with you! 🌱

But first, we thought it would be useful to explain what each of the four session types are. We’ve tried to keep our schedule as simple as possible to understand while bringing you a varied selection of curated events 🫧

All of our sessions weave in wellbeing and music with use of the sauna and ice baths 🌊 we know some of this may be new to you but we encourage you to give each session a try and see how it feels. Hopefully you’ll be sleeping better, feeling more relaxed and better able to cope with the stresses and strains of everyday life 🌱

The mailing list will get first dibs on tickets and information about our very special launch party will be shared there first, so make sure you’re signed up 🔗

We’ve been having a blast the past 4 weeks since we picked up the keys to our little slot of paradise in Peckham 🫧

The paint is now drying, the sauna fully coated and set up, and the final pieces coming together 🌱 now most of the building work is complete we can turn our attention to the next few weeks…

Our grand opening is 30th August with bookings open from the 15th, less than two short weeks away! ☀️

Very excited to announce our first collaborations and events. As always, the mailing list will be the first to hear. Plus anyone signed up by next week will have access to a limited amount of tickets for our pre-launch event. More details coming soon..

Why call ourselves Sauna Social Club? 🌱

Before deciding on our name we first laid down what sort of space we wanted to create, and why we felt there was such a need for it.

Working in the music industry, Nikki felt that there are a lack of healthy and relaxing third spaces to connect with friends. As a personal trainer, Benji saw first hand the impact looking after your physical wellbeing can have on people’s feelings of happiness and connection.

We’ve both been to some incredible social clubs that reimagine the traditional exclusivity of a members club into inclusive and creative places to connect - from parties at Brudenell Social Club in Leeds and in Birmingham, to workshops at .pleasure.club and .social.peckham here in London 🫧

Social clubs are about being part of a community, meeting people with a shared interest, coming together to enjoy ourselves and leave feeling good.

So when we thought of a Sauna Social Club… it all sort of slotted into place. Saunas are incredible place to connect - they fill you with endorphins and help you feel relaxed, allowing you connect with others and build community.

It was Nikki’s birthday on Sunday so we celebrated in our favourite way - getting out closest friends down to the sauna! Scroll to the end to see the incredible sunset view. Thanks to .sauna for having us over at Royal Docks.

Have you ever got excited about the fossil-like patterns that surface in concrete when you polish it? 🌀

No? Well us neither… that is until we got the keys to this beautiful little slice of Peckham 🌱

It sounds a bit cheesy but we really fell in love with the arch on first sight. It reminds us of old Roman bath houses and feels so airy and light 🫧

This blank canvas is about to become an oasis of calm 🌊 and we’re so excited to welcome you in.

We’re looking to collab with a local artist to showcase some work in the space, so please share this with any south east London creatives who you think might be interested x

Everyone’s been saying they’ve enjoyed the round ups of our research trips so far, so we thought we’d treat you (and ourselves) to another!

For Benji’s birthday last week what better way to celebrate than hit up another local sauna 🌻 so for our latest research trip we headed over to Royal Docks in East London to .sauna 🫧 and what a beautiful spot it is… 🌱

Sweheat has a real community feel with a massive cold plunge you can jump into with your mates. And the dock is close by if you’re more daring than us and fancy an open water dip! 🌊

They’ve done so much work on the space since we last visited a year ago, and they’ve recently added a beautiful second sauna that you can private hire 🫧

Love the London sauna scene, so many beautiful small businesses to visit 🌻

Have you ever wanted to try breathwork but found it overwhelming or a bit mystifying? 🌀

We absolutely have (one of which left Benji feeling like he’d been spun around blindfolded… so not ideal!)

This is why we were intrigued to sample a session with Mark from 🫧 and suffice to say we were absolutely blown away!

Mark combines his calm guidance with beautiful musical compositions 🌊 for us the this seamless pairing with music made all the difference,

We were transported to the breathwork gym for a workout like our lungs had never had before.

But the music helped keep our minds present and bodies calm. A real example of why pairing music with wellbeing sessions just makes sense ✨

With the stresses of starting the business this session came just at the right time. We would love to host Tuned in Sound at the Sauna Social Club.. watch this space!!

We went to check out the wonderful new sauna in Bermondsey , part of 🫧

The lovely Tanya talked us through their big plans to create a wellness haven in this unassuming spot and we’re so on board with it. Really great to have more sauna community nearby. Even more options for South Londoners 🔥🌊

The ice baths were a breezy 9 degrees and we’re very proud of our friends and sauna newbies Ellie and James for building up to an exhilarating dip ❄️

We also loved hanging out with this HUUM heater - it brings out the sauna nerd in us. It’s very similar to the electric HUUM we’ll have in our space. One for the heads maybe…

Really recommend checking them out! We love their waged and unwaged tickets making sauna more available and accessible to all 🫧

Finnish saunas are having a real moment on the sea front right now. We went to Margate to check out some that are easily accessible by train from London 🌊🛤️
 
First stop was , a free-to-use volunteer run sauna on the seafront. Sauna goers can cool off between sessions in one of the tidal pools, and it’s a beautifully built Victorian style bathing wagon.

Due to wind it was sadly closed on the morning we visited, so we had to use our imaginations (see slide 2)… We love the community ethos of the project and were determined to make it back down on a less windy day 🫧
 
Next stop was to check out their beautiful barrel saunas. The view from inside the sauna is awe-inspiring. They’ve got whiskey barrel ice baths on the beach or if you’re feeling up to it, you can go for a dip in the sea.

It’s also the only way we were going to feel brave enough to swim in the sea in April.. Scroll to the end for a bonus photo of Nik acting tough on the seafront ❄️
 
Back in our Railway Arch in Peckham, we want to imitate the exhilarating natural experience of the sea for our bodies through sauna and ice baths, and create visuals and soundscapes to transport us to the coast and beyond 🌊

This week we’ve been thinking about why we, as humans, are drawn to squeezing into a hot wooden box to sweat it out with people we barely know…

And this isn’t anything new - there’s evidence of saunas being around since 7000BC 🫧

Regular use of a sauna offers so many health benefits, and we’re going to be exploring how we can use sauna and ice baths as part of our weekly routine to help stave off the weeks’ stress 🌊

We were in Naples recently and went on a research trip to check out the ancient Roman baths at Terme Stufe Di Nerone 🌋

There have been thermal baths in the area since the 2nd century AD so visiting feels like a little slice of history.

The mineral rich water runs naturally at 80 degrees and is said to have loads of health benefits, from easing muscle pain to promoting cell regeneration 🌊

You can cover yourself in mud and wash it off in the lake or bathe in the salty thermal baths..

Or, and this is one for the real sauna lovers, you can wander into the underground natural saunas (swipe to slide 6 for a grainy pic), chiseled out of the volcanic rock. It’s not for the faint hearted.. honestly the most intense sauna we’ve ever been in! But a real experience 🌋

Bonus slide 6: the arched baths at Herculaneum, the ancient village of Pompeii’s little sister. Inspiration for renovating our railway arch..? 🫧

We would absolutely recommend a visit if you’re ever in the area - xx

We’ve fallen in love with sauna over the past few years. It’s a healthy, sustainable way to relax and recharge 🫧

We believe it should be a bigger part of London life and accessible to more people.

But we want to do something a little bit different with it…

The Sauna Social Club is about bringing together sauna with arts and wellbeing. We will offer a program of ambient music, spoken word and live performance. We’ll run sessions on breathwork, meditation, and traditional sauna rituals.

So how’s this all going to work? You’ll be welcomed into the space, then spend time relaxing in the sauna and ice baths, before bedding down on some comfy cushions to listen to some great music with a warm cuppa, or a spritz..
