View Online Dear Miss Davis,I wanted to write to you as a precaution to inform you that a company which acts on our behalf to deliver and manage supporter surveys has made us aware of a security breach.
Unfortunately, this is likely to have resulted in a limited amount of data about our supporters being accessed by a third party, so as a valued supporter we wanted to make you aware of this and reassure you that the company impacted does not hold any sensitive or financial details. The information was restricted to surname, email address, first part of postcode, (where this information was held) and information about previous donations such as dates and amounts (if you have donated), for those who took part in our supporter survey last Autumn.
Please be assured that we are treating this breach very seriously, have reported this to both the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) and the Charity Commission, and are undertaking every necessary measure to ensure this incident is handled effectively and to prevent future incidents from happening.
There is no evidence that this data has been shared further, however, as a precaution we suggest you keep a look out for any suspicious or phishing emails - messages which look genuine but could include links to fake websites. There is more advice on how to protect yourself at the National Cyber Security Centre - www.ncsc.gov.uk/collection/phishing-scams
We are extremely sorry for any concern and inconvenience caused. Thank you for your patience and your continued support. You are the reason we are able to continue to be there for animals who need us most.
If you would like to discuss this further, please contact RSPCA Supporter Services on 0300 123 0346 (Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm).
Kind regards,Tom Strong, Assistant Director of Customer Engagement
