KEVIN Greenwood thanked his Essex fans for helping him through “the hardest fight I’ve ever had.”
Greenwood has ditched his gloves to fight bareknuckle after a pro gloved boxing career and the Wickford fighter challenged Brad Scott for the British cruiserweight championship at the O2 Arena.
The judges couldn’t separate the fighters after five blood-soaked rounds of bareknuckle boxing and all were agreed there should be a rematch.
That should please the fans. Robin Reid, the former Olympic bronze medallist and WBC super-middleweight champion, said the fight had “everything . . . blood, guts, courage. It has to be one of the fights of the year.”
Greewood said: “I felt every single punch. I have never been hit that hard. It was the hardest I have ever been hit and the crowd pulled me through.
“I tried to outwork him, but he kept hitting me hard.”
Hard enough to leave Greenwood with a bad gash under his left eye and swelling under his right.
He did well to stay on his feet in the fourth after former UFC fighter Scott smashed a right hand off his chin.
Greenwood had to hold and was soon firing back.
