A few of you have seemed surprised that the new Da Groins LP is most likely the final release on Kibou Records. So maybe some explanation is required...
I started the label a dozen or so years ago to put out the first CD and 7' for my band, The Domestics. Gradually I started doing trades with other labels and suddenly I had a distro alongside the label. Then I started helping other bands put out their records (from all over the world) if I liked them enough, and doing collaborative releases with labels such as TNSrecords, Urinal Vinyl, Amok, Sick World Records And Distro, Kangaroo Records, Cimex records, Metadona, Desorden, and many more (I'm very tired so can't bring them all to mind)
At one point I was taking between 30 and 60 parcels to the post office each and every week (more than double that if a new release just appeared).

Kibou has managed to put out 66 releases, which is way more than I ever envisioned!

Over the past few years, pressing prices have risen with alarming regularity, meaning I've had to raise selling prices on newer releases (all DIY labels have). Conversely, with the cost of living having gone through the roof, sales are down by a massive amount (some weeks I don't go to the post office AT ALL!).

Financially it's riduliculous, I'm just throwing money away, and that's completely unsustainable. The joy's gone out of it to be honest. It's just a stressful, financially draining, chore for the most part. My mental health hasn't been the best these past few years (as some of you know) and my physical health isn't far behind it. The label/distro hasn't made that any easier.

What I need to do is reduce the number of projects I have going on and concentrate on the ones that give me the most pleasure (thus leaving more time for those, getting healthier, and home life). So the label is going!

Of course www.kibourecords.bigcartel.com will still function, selling releases and merch by The Domestics, PI$$ER, and other related bands and the Kibou logo will probably appear on future Domestics releases (these actually do sell OK, as we sell plenty at gigs), but there will be no more distro once current stock is sold out (it almost has), and no other new releases.

It HAS been fun, and I've learned a lot, and made contacts with loads of cool people worldwide, but I need to focus on fewer things. Cheers for all of you that have supported the label over the years, it's much appreciated.

Full album from this lot now at the pressing plant. A joint release between Kibou, No Front Teeth, and Guerilla Vinyl.
Probably the final release on Kibou, I'm sad - but also slightly releived - to say.
But y'know, maybe we'll come back. 64 releases is way more than I ever expected to do, so there's that.
