Farm Locations offers one point of contact to find your ideal film or photographic location on a farm. Across the South East.

Farm Locations is a one point of contact for finding an ideal farm or countryside location for film and photography in Kent or East Sussex. Farmers ourselves, and also an experienced marketeer, we are well set to understand both sides of the coin. We allow farmers to continue to farm, and location finders to find an interesting setting, quickly. We find the solutions to the brief, liaise between p

arties, and ensure a smooth process towards shoot day, and on the day. Farm Locations is aiming to bring farms, their yards and their landscapes to the fore in being an ideal solution for many a film or photographic shoot. Thousands of acres of farms in Kent and East Sussex offer countless opportunities for shoot locations. As farmers ourselves, we are fortunate to live, work and play amongst some of the most beautiful backdrops in the english countryside. There are an infinite number of corners of the english countryside that farmers are guardians of, and that the general public don't get to see. Even the farmyards, the buildings, animals and machinery, they all offer lots of interest for the camera. Farm Locations is celebrating Britian's countryside, and opening up the opportunities available for film an photography locations. In so doing, we'd also like to think we are promoting the positives of British farming. Based on the Kent/East Sussex border, we are close to the farms we promote, across thousands of acres of the Kent and East Sussex countryside. And with connections across the farming fraternity, we are well-placed to find a solution to an infinite number of briefs, unprecedented or not. And if you are looking for a location for something other than film and photography, we are keen to hear your enquiry so we may try and find you a solution. A farm location for a team-building event, a wedding reception, a music venue, a tour, or something else...please let us know and we will do our best to offer some location ideas.

ROOTS 🌱🌱🌱

They are farms, farmers, farming. This is where it all began. Jo wanted to help her own family farm diversify without changing a thing. She landed on an idea that was light on its feet and fun to do. Her brother would carry on farming, and she’d take care of filming.

Fast forward a few years and she’s now assisting hundreds of landowners to do the same thing.

Tomorrow we are at talking to more farmers and growers, whilst learning plenty about regenerative farming too. We’ll be strengthening the bridge between the film and farming industries, both with treading lightly firmly on the agenda. Please pop by stand MS6 if you are there!

It’s WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY and in our world of farms for film, we feel it’s a match made well when seeking to tread lightly.

Take this week’s highlight, the new release from Rag n Bone Man.

All filmed at Runaway Farm in one day, in the fresh air and in harmony with all that’s on offer on the farm

✅ The crew used the farm’s on site cafe and mobile catering truck
✅ Fields were the backdrop for the film - most impressive were the white oil radishes, a crop that’s so good for the soil, adding more nutrients back into it than it takes away.
✅ Use of on site loos, hangout area and cafe are fuelled by green hydrogen too
✅ All found within the M25, minimal miles for travel

And whilst the filming went on between fields and barns, the farm’s 40 bee hives continued to do their wonderful thing 🐝whilst the local mums enjoyed their green gym workouts in the fresh air.

Runaway Farm is a location with the environment front of mind.

SEE WHAT ALL THE BUZZ IS ABOUT 🐝

National Geographic's 'A Real Bug's Life' for Disney+ chose Cherry Farm 🚜 as a key location in its epic tale on a miniature scale. It follows the lives of a variety of bugs across a multitude of locations. Episode 5 'The Busy Farm' is dedicated to life on a farm for a bee and other bugs.

Filmed on location at Cherry Farm in Hertfordshire, the film crew worked closely with the farmer in a labour of love, returning to the location across the seasons 🌿🌾🍂 , with multiple filming days dotted across June 2021 to June 2023.

Lastly JO.

Back in 2015, Jo was once one of those farmer’s daughters, looking to help diversify the farm business, and trying her luck on a London location agency’s listing. Nothing. No surprise since the agency just asked for photos and a mini write-up, they didn’t want to talk. Would any other agency be more engaged? 🤔 She couldn’t find one, so she started her own 💡

So what’s next?
“I’m not going anywhere! The journey we are on in championing Britain’s farms for filming feels like it’s only just begun and the vision we have to break new ground and open opportunities to many more landowners is filling me with excitement for what’s to come”

We might have big ambitions for our owner community, but we will never lose the personal touch. It’s just the 3 of us, Gemma, Carolyn and Jo, working hard as a tight-knit team, to be as helpful as we can 👌

Welcome CAROLYN!

Join us in welcoming Carolyn into the fold. Five weeks’ in, with the baton now carefully passed on from Tiff, Carolyn is well-warmed up and out of the starting blocks, with many upcoming farms already now under her wing 🪽

Carolyn’s main role is to introduce new landowners into the world of filming, whilst growing the locations portfolio and assisting with marketing too.

“Tiff has done everything to ensure she’s left our owners in ‘well trained’ hands. I can’t wait to continue the ambition in introducing more exciting locations to the agency, whilst forging great relationships amongst the owner community.“ 🧡

What’s surprised Carolyn most since her time here “I’ve been totally bowled over by the diversity of locations the length and breadth of the UK and I couldn’t believe how many were also on my doorstep. I am so excited to get out there and explore!”

Starting with GEMMA.

Two years into her role here at Farm Locations, GEMMA is the go-to, make-it-happen agent when it comes to assisting clients in finding their perfect location.

“I might be biased but I have the best job in the world! I spend my days MATCH-MAKING clients and owners and no two days are the same. It helps that I have the best TEAM around me too. What's not to love!” 🧡

Gemma is the best multi-tasker in the business, juggling so many jobs and stages on any one day She’s liaising with location managers or producers on one side and farmers or landowners on the other, ensuring everyone is happy and everything that matters is thought through before the crew arrives.

As long as we keep her topped up with cups of tea ☕ with Gemma at the wheel in the fast lane, her unflappable style and can-do attitude makes it a great lane to be in.

Highlight of the week so far “A kids fashion shoot at Cherry Farm. A ‘to the wire’ location booking, without a recce, but because we know our owners so well, I knew they'd be in good hands with Vicky. Kids + horses, dog, ducks and more. And a perfect day for both client and owner. And they say you should never work with children or animals……. 🐴🦆🐶👧

TIFF has been in charge of our new owners, being their agent from the start of their journey with us, and nurturing them through to becoming a location host.

Over the 3 years, she’s been the helping hand for so many landowners, from all corners of the UK, with all sorts of rural backdrops 🤝

You might have thought we just deal with tractors and combine harvesters. But no, Tiff has just launched a location with tanks*.

Goodbye TIFF 🥲👋

Today is a big one for the team. It’s 3 years since 1 became 2 when Tiff joined Jo at Farm Locations HQ, and today she is now stepping away for a while, switching her focus on a growing family (baby girl expected very soon!).

We are going to miss her enormously but more importantly we can’t thank Tiff enough for getting Jo out of a pickle way back then, and in her wonderful calm and friendly way, she has assisted so many owners into becoming a film location.

We wish her much joy in this new chapter that’s unfolding, when her little family of 3 becomes 4. 🩷👶

Hope she won’t mind us taking a snippet from her note to our owners.

You won't win it if you aren't in it 😉 We chatted to BBC Radio 4's Charlotte Smith in the latest episode of On Your Farm when she was fascinated to hear more about farms diversifying into the film industry. She was keen to hear what makes a great farm location for filming, and to experience a major film set first hand. We met her on location in Kent with owner Lorna and were able to show Charlotte the warts and all of what it takes to host such a huge film crew.
