BBC Introducing The South
BBC Music Introducing The South is the showcase for fresh new acts from East Sussex, West Sussex, and Surrey.
We're live on Wednesday 8-10pm on BBC Radio Sussex and BBC Radio Surrey, online and on DAB with a Saturday re-wind 8-10pm.
We're also on Twitter and Instagram @BBCIntroSouth and catch a selection of our archive Live Lounge acts on Youtube at
https://www.youtube.com/user/IntroducingTheSouth
Each week we feature around 20 new acts from genres which cross rap and hip hop, rock, electronica, punk, acoustic, beats, whatever. Under normal circumstances we’d have a Live Lounge session act but this has been put on hold due to covid-19.
Shows are available to listen again on BBC Sounds for 30 days after broadcast.
For airplay consideration upload your tracks to www.bbc.co.uk/introducing - but please read the tips below first, and take some time to listen to the programme to get a feel for how it works.
Due to the large number of tracks received we are unable to offer individual feedback to artists. You will be notified by email if a track is selected for airplay.
Please do NOT send random links via this page or Twitter - they will not be considered for airplay. Putting them on the Uploader means we have all your contact details and links in one place, and we can forward tracks easily to other BBC radio producers round the country.
Tips:
1. Keep tracks short! We only have one hour to cover six counties' worth of music, so three minutes (or even less!) is optimum radio length for any genre. Make a shorter radio edit if needed.
2. Make your track work from the very first note. We have more than 27,000 tracks on the Uploader with up to 500 tracks a month coming in so that's a lot of tight competition - make sure your tracks stands out in the first few seconds.
3. We're looking for originality, not carbon-copies of existing bands. If people tell you "you sound just like so-and-so" then go back and find your own voice and sound. Avoid common studio effects such as autotune - if you’re trying to create a sound that mimics your favourite act, chances are you’re one of many we’ll hear this week - and it makes you all sound identical!
4. No swearing! It should go without saying but people continue to upload tracks with swearing, which just ain't going to get aired.
5. Make sure your biographical and contact details are up to date on the Uploader. Check to see if your information is out of date so keep it refreshed and remove old tracks if they don't represent your sound any more.
6. Ask what is it that makes YOUR track stand out from the 499 other we’ve heard this month. Originality, personality, a different sound, a killer riff, an ear-grabbing vocal - what will YOU do?
If you are being played on the programme you will be notified by email in advance. Please tell all your fans and spread the word on social media as that creates a real buzz on air for your band. Acts who use social media well really stand out above those who don't.
If you're uploading tracks and they're not being played.... keep trying! You can upload two tracks every month - make them your best ones. Maybe ask a friend who will give you an honest opinion of your tracks. Review older tracks - if it’s over 3 minutes, make a radio edit, or maybe you’ve improved your playing or production techniques since you first uploaded, so
it’s fine to upload a new version.
Bear in mind that we only have 2 hours a week so there is a LONG queue of tracks we want to play!
Each track stands on its own merit, so lobbying by Twitter, Facebook or email doesn't work. A DIY bedroom artist gets an equal hearing to an act who’s paying someone to promote them.
