Shift may return in new forms with a different editorial team but for now the project is over. The first issue of Shift Magazine was published in summer 2007 and until late 2012 there was a new issue every 4 months. Shift Magazine was edited in Manchester. Shift magazine emerged out of a desire for a space where people involved in radical politics could discuss ideas, tactics and strategies. We wa
nted to try and bridge the seeming gap between “talking theory” and “doing politics”. In the process this means relating discussions about broad questions and themes to our current forms of organising and doing politics. These discussions can be difficult and sometimes controversial but we are committed to having them. Whilst we take it for granted that Shift readers are looking for debate on a non-state, non-capitalist ‘way out’ we will challenge any politics which increase social control or that demand a movement for austerity. Debates Shift engaged with included climate change politics, anti-fascism, migration and those surrounding anti-cuts protests. We put on workshops and discussion events in Manchester and at events such as Climate Camp and No Border camps. We had our articles translated and printed in mobilisation magazines and other publications. All material published via Shift is now archived digitally at: http://libcom.org/library/shift-magazine. We hope to find housing for a paper archive of the magazine's back issues at some point in the future - watch this space. Email: shiftmagazine [at] hotmail [dot] co [dot] uk
