The Birmingham P**s Troll (yes, it's a real thing... sort of 🤷🏻‍♂️)

Hi guys, this is a bit of an odd one but hear me out. I want to delve into a bizarre and somewhat humorous urban legend from a city about 20 minutes away from Cannock Chase. Yes, I'm talking about the infamous Birmingham P**s Troll. Buckle up, because this is one strange tale!

The legend of the Birmingham P**s Troll centers around a peculiar character who allegedly haunts the canal bridge near what was once Subway City nightclub, now known as the Tunnel Club. According to the stories, after a night of revelry, club-goers would often find themselves needing to relieve themselves as they crossed the bridge. And that's where our troll comes into play.

As the legend goes, this mysterious figure would lurk in the shadows under the bridge, seemingly enjoying the unexpected "showers" from the inebriated patrons above. While it sounds too strange to be true, it's become a well-known story among locals, often shared with a mix of laughter and slight unease.

The tale gained significant traction online, particularly on Reddit, where it sparked numerous discussions and recountings. Some people treat it as a lighthearted urban myth, while others wonder if there's a kernel of truth behind the bizarre behavior described.

Interestingly, the legend was further popularized by music critic Neil Kulkarni, who shared it on a podcast and in his writings. His recounting of the Birmingham P**s Troll added to the myth's spread, making it a part of the city's unique and quirky folklore.

So, is the Birmingham P**s Troll real? Well, like many urban legends, it sits in the space between fact and fiction. While there's no concrete evidence to prove its existence, the story itself has become a part of Birmingham's cultural tapestry, a peculiar footnote in the city's rich history of local lore.

Whether you believe in the P**s Troll or not, it's stories like these that add color to our understanding of urban legends and the way they capture the imagination. Next time you're near the Tunnel Club, spare a thought for the strange, shadowy figure beneath the bridge—if only for the sake of a good laugh.

Stay curious, stay safe, and keep your eyes peeled for the strange and unexplained!

Chart Music: the Top Of The Pops podcast

We are a collective of former Melody Maker journalists (hosted by someone who wasn’t), and we spend a few hours every fortnight getting our hands down the back of the sofa of a random episode of Top Of The Pops, sniffing the droppings left behind by the Hit Parade and reporting our findings to the Pop-Crazed Youngsters. You can find our latest episode - and all the other ones - at www.chart-music.co.uk.

If you like what we do, and would like to hear future episodes recorded on better equipment and put together by people who have a bit extra to spend on crisps and the like, maybe you could put some money our way via patreon.com/chartmusic.
