Mim's Monday Moments

Focus on what matters..

Today is World Photography day and as a photographer I spend a lot of time taking other people's pictures and events.

So even though I have lots of pictures to choose from, I decided to go for the last photograph I took, which was of myself. I was actually trying to do a video and accidentally took a picture instead.

As a Mum I have spent a lot of family events and holidays taking pictures of everyone else, not including myself in them. I'm sure I'm not the only one, I bet you'll find not many of yourselves in the frame.

It may be that you're a bit camera shy, however focus on what memories you'll be creating to look back on. These days I try to set a timer or do a selfie to get in with the family.

Focus on yourself this week, share a photo of you.

Wednesday's word is blooming..

I'm on holiday this week, enjoying the blooms on display in the lovely town of Lytham St Anne's.

The sun is shining, we've been out walking, popping in and out of independent shops.

It's nice to take a stroll and not be confined to a deadline, stumbling across hidden gems.

Spent today at the ICC Wales Comic Con, lots of great people, I didn't get a lot of pictures as I was in the moment soaking it all up.

But it was great to have long hair again for a little bit until the wig slid off! Then I decided to embrace my short hair again.

Wednesday's word is wellbeing

Today I'm finally able to reveal a project I've been working on.
A subject close to my heart, improving your mental health and wellness through a creative outlet, in my case photography.

By focusing on an activity, it can absorb you into that task. Other things on your mind don't take centre stage, as your mind and thoughts are on something else.

My wellbeing photography class aims to create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere to encourage your artistic side. No experience is necessary, you don't even have to have a camera, you can bring your phone or tablet.

The course starts on Wednesday 18th September 10am to 11am (for 6 weeks) , at a cost of £10 per class. Which includes, tea, coffee and biscuits.

The Jelleyman Mill site, will have lots inspiration for us to draw on.

Tuesday's treat, was to open an email from Jill of The Gospelites the group I recorded my last episode of season 2's Mim's Moments with.

To read this, it really boosted my confidence and it's nice to know I have a soothing voice.

Mim's Monday Moments

"It's just another manic Monday, I wish it was Sunday.."

Actually just lately Mondays have become more bearable, thanks to co-working with
at Bistrot Pierre on Mondays.

Sunday is still my favourite day of the week, as usually that's my downtime and where I take the time for some self care.

I'm looking forward to the week ahead, this view greeted me on my jog with a friend at the weekend. I thought it was very apt for the looking forward analogy of the week ahead.

I'm working on a project, so lots of research this week, catching up with friends and also work. This weekend coming I'm going to Wales Comic Con, will try and post some pictures from the event.

What are your plans for the week ahead?

Sunday evening has come round too quickly!

But then I remind myself to take a deep breath, look back at a lovely weekend (filled with pizza, cake, running, friendship and movies) and the plans for the week ahead.

Enjoy the last part of the weekend and breathe.

It's Friday 😊, the sun is shining and I've discovered a writer called Lemn Sissay.

I was recommended his book of morning poems
"Let the light pour in" by the Nick from

This is the first poem in the book:
"How do you do it? said night
How do you wake up and shine?
I keep it simple said light
One day at a time"

Isn't that a beautiful poem to start your day.

Wednesday's word is pride..

As July comes to an end, I wanted to share this lovely picture I took of Crip Ladywood at Kidderminster Pride on Saturday evening at the Cavelier pub in Kidderminster.

The crowd enjoyed, live music, food stalls and entertainment.

Mim's Monday Moments

"Every small step, is a step closer to your goal.."

I recently jogged (and walked a little) my first 10km, it's a goal that I set myself, after joining a couch to 5km programme, after doing the 5km race at the end of it. I joined the club and have slowly been building up to it.

I know when I first started the course, I was scared of taking that first step but I was surrounded by lovely supportive people, which made the difference.

What are your goals this Summer and beyond?
If you're thinking of getting into the media, take that first step with me, together we can reach your goal.

Taking some time for myself today, catching up on this lovely Summer read, after browsing in my favourite book shop Wyre Forest Books.

The sun is shinning, I've browsed in little independent shops, met a friend, played games, had lunch cooked for me by husband.

Definitely enjoying some self care this Friday.

Wednesday's word is art..

I finally got to see the Victorian Radicals exhibition at the BMAG Gas Hall. It's been on since February.

I felt so happy to browse the art and look upon the pre Raphaelite pieces and discover an artist called Kate Elizabeth Bunce, she was inspired by the poetry of Rosetti one of the pre Raphaelite brotherhood of artists.
I learnt about them during my art history lessons at college as a mature student and they stuck with me, I liked their use of medieval myths and chivalry.

Brought back happy memories of my art school days.

Mim's Monday Moments

"It's time for tea and a chat about possibilities.."

Possibilities can be seen as ideas that may happen or be the case.

You have to seize opportunities that come your way this week, turning possibilities into actionable goals.

Sunday sunshine

I'm currently sat with my book "Seven Summers" by Paige Toon, reflecting on my best ever jog with the Stourport and Kidderminster running club, thanks to the support from Paul, Stella and Trish.

Took in this lovely view at Lincomb lock near Stourport, I've seen some beautiful scenery since I joined the club. Seeing things on foot that you wouldn't normally see when you're driving.

After my jog, I met up with friends for a cuppa and a well deserved slice of cake.

Enjoying my Sunday so far, hope you are too.

Time to talk mental health and how photography can help..

In my latest episode of Mim's Moments season 2, I talk about how photography has helped with my mental health and how it can help you too.

It has been created using an editing software called Riverside, so it may not sound the same as my usual episodes, I'm still learning.

It's still me though, it's all about focusing on the positive and developing from the negative.

Here is the link for you to listen, copy and paste or there is a link in my bio.

Wednesday's word is emoji,

As it's World Emoji Day, (thanks for the reminder )
I 🤔 thought I'd share my most used emojis, I couldn't find the tea emoji when creating this post, as that is one I send a lot, I find discussing a project or collaboration over a cuppa is an ideal way to do business, for me anyway.

What are your most used emojis?

Hope you have a "Bostin Sunday" today,

Whether you're watching the sports or out celebrating "Black Country Day" or both enjoy it bab.

Having worked in the area, in my time as a press photographer I can honestly say they're a friendly bunch and their unique dialect always makes me smile.

Feeling wonderful after a visit to Shirl Ariton holistic hairdresser in Stourport.

With her blend of calm and professionalism I know I'm in safe hands and sipping on lemongrass and ginger tea finishes off a Thursday treat to myself.

Happy Hump Day everyone

Whilst visiting Halesowen today, I came across these parklets funded by a government development fund.

What a wonderful idea, I hope it catches on in other towns, a bright colourful place to sit, enjoy a drink or snack or spend a few minutes gathering your thoughts and people watching.

Severn Valley Railway is having a swell time this weekend.

With the second 1940s weekend, spread across the various SVR stations, including Kidderminster, Arley and Bewdley.

Pop along and enjoy the vintage cars, outfits and music. Zakk has been providing the music outside Kidderminster station.

Don't let anyone rain on your parade..

The typical British Summer weather is upon us today.
But don't be discouraged, work around it. I always use it as a good excuse to hunt out a colourful brolly or wellies for that matter.

Hope whatever your plans for Saturday are the rain doesn't dampen your spirits.

It's CREATE WEEK

I like to create, as well as painting with light with my camera, I also like to draw with various materials.
I need to get back to drawing again.

I've also been getting creative this week, by designing a summer fete leaflet for my local primary school. I'm helping out at the event too.

You create all the time, the texts you send, the posts you design, the pictures you take, the clothes you wear, being creative is within you.

Mim's Monday Moments

"Summertime and the livin is easy.."

Over the weekend it certainly felt like an easy summertime, the weather has been a bit cooler today.

July has lots of things to look forward to for me, end of the school term summer fete, 1940s weekend, my husband's birthday, networking and an afternoon tea fundraiser to name but a few.

What are you looking forward to this month?

I like Sundays, a day to relax and unwind.

A time to catch up with myself and plan for the week ahead.

Today started off with a jog in Bewdley a 5km, which is good for me. Had on my rock playlist to help me along, followed by a drive to Worcester, catching up with friends afterwards then lunch with my daughter.

Currently sat with a cuppa, about to catch up with some Glastonbury on BBC iPlayer.

How's your Sunday going?
