Throwback Thursday

The Woodentops are a British rock band that enjoyed critical acclaim and moderate popularity in the mid-1980s.

Debut single, "Plenty", received a glowing review from Morrissey in Melody Maker and their debut album “Giant” was well-received by critics.

The band then became more experimental and frenetic when playing live, using more electronic sounds, becoming one of the most exciting independent groups from the UK, while gaining an early hit on the burgeoning club scene in Ibiza with "Why”.

Changes to the band’s lineup started in 1987 but the band continued touring until 1992 before the band members followed individual endeavours.

The Woodentops returned to live performances in September 2006.

In October 2009, they performed in a special concert at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London's South Bank where they also curated an art exhibition.

In 2010, the band announced their first single in 20 years and played a string of dates across Europe.

In 2014 they released “Granular Tales”, their first album of new music since 1988's “Wooden Foot Cops on the Highway” and this year they self-released another album of new music, “Fruits of the Deep”, which they supported with a limited UK tour.

It’s time to give someone a big old & this week it goes goes to Safari Gold

They are a Welsh alt-folk quartet Safari Gold who built their own studio in a house over a decade ago, allowing the band to create music in a way that made sense to them.

The band’s members are four friends who have been making music together since they were teenagers and they’ve formed a deep friendship as a result.

The band’s indie sound was evident on their self-titled debut album, follow up album ‘The Years Between the Dog and Wolf’ and their most recent release ‘Your Summer’ but recent single ‘Lemonade Baby’ demonstrated their versatility with a more acoustic sound.
