Golf R Wheel Rim PROBLEMS! 🛞
With potholes aplenty across the UK, I found out (the hard way, twice) that the genuine VW Golf R 19" Pretoria wheel rims are brittle things.
Having cracked the front passenger-side rim and had it welded, after a couple of months I hit another quite unavoidable pothole at low speed - and the same wheel was broken again.
It was time for some new wheels... but should I go **aftermarket**?
One new rim from VW was going to be over £1100 - so I made a plan...

Having visited Jay's Grave on Dartmoor in a previous video - I was fascinated by the fresh flowers found there every day.
So I was heading back to do some Golf R ghost hunting, with Zach in the Golf and Chaz in the backup Skoda diesel.
And we didn't really know what we were doing...
Stories litter the internet from those whop have visited the grave - feeling an urge to speak with Kitty Jay - a su***de victim of the 18th century - but we weren't going to let that put us off.

A first car is and always will be different from any other that anyone might own. Dreadful - perhaps, but the ability to get yourself about is one of the very greatest.
Having met at the MBP office in part 1 - where I test drove Zach's first car (and avoided the signposted composting biohazard): in part 2 we convoy to the pub through Mid-Devon. Avoiding the potholes... occasionally.
I brought along a 2021 Volkswagen Polo (a newer version of my first car), whilst my SEAT Ibiza was poorly.

The summer of 2023 was full with the sound of horsepower - thanks largely to Coryton kindly agreeing to send down some of their brand-spanking-new for 2023, Sustain Classic Super 80 Biofuel.
After more than two years of researching, learning and talking about sustainable, synthetic and e-Fuels; it has been excellent in 2023 to start actually using them and proving the pudding (so to speak). .

Being a second generation Biofuel, the source of biomass is plant waste which isn't suitable for humans to eat - so things like crop waste and straw.
The fuel only uses carbon which already exists in the atmosphere and has been absorbed by the plants as they grow. The Classic Super 80 has the highest renewable content of the range - at 80%; with a 65% reduction in GHG emissions, compared with fossil.

Max meets: Howard Jackson
After many months of planning, I met with Howard Jackson; a visionary with a passion for all things biofuel, pyrolysis and motorsport. Howard's belief in tyre pyrolysis - turning used tyres back into oils, steel and carbon black; was really rather infectious.
I met Howard as part of my 'What is the Future of Fuel?' episode 2, which is currently being produced. However, I was greatly saddened to hear of Howard's sudden and horribly unexpected passing in September 2023.
I was hoping to work with both Howard and 2G BioPower in the coming weeks, months, years and beyond - but at the very least I wanted to share this film about Howard's work; in his memory.
I only met Howard for the day at the Rally for the Ages at Bicester Heritage, but it was a wonderful interview with him and I really will miss keeping up to speed with his work.
