Igloo Mag reviews Bunker 3 - EP1

The results are first-rate (and also recently remastered) with Room’s “Greetings” diving into sweeping melodic bleep techno and broken beats as Eba’s glitchy Mbuki Mvuki-infused “Elephungk” casts a bubbling groove. EP1—hopefully signifying that there’s more in the pipeline—sheds light on the mood of early electronic music and its alluring soundscapes; mixing shuffled/Sheffield breaks with techno, echoed melodies, and pulsing dance-friendly rhythms.

From a studio in a deserted building behind The Forum, Sheffield. Andrew, David & Jules composed music within a stone's throw from FON Records, a shop that became the first WARP Records store. FON stood for F**k Off N***s and Sheffield stood for its own unique style of techno. Bunker Studios consisted of a massive old mixing desk, Yamaha monitors, a handful of Korg and Roland outboard synths and drum machines, and an Akai S3000.

EP2 is a collection of tracks at this magical time by three 20 year old electronic music fanatics who had been plugged into LFO, Forgemasters, Cabaret Voltaire, Mr Fingers and Detroit's pioneers of the electronic groove.

Joseph Hyde - Spherical Harmonics

Spherical Harmonics reflects a love of early electronic music, when every sound and every instrument had to be built by hand, and artists were pioneers exploring new territory with no map. It is made using self-built analogue synthesizers and home-made software, with no preset sounds, standardised rhythmic grids or even musical scales. The result is a series of tone poems evoking imaginary landscapes, arranged as a journey into outer reaches and inner depths.

Matthias Grübel releases Futuro, an EP of flexible electronics and human emotion. A driving rhythmic collection set against a futuristic horizon that could tear your heart apart.

With Futuro, Matthias Grübel illustrates his openness to collaborate and innovate. The single ‘Waterfalls’ offers the emotive vocals of former Polarkreis 18 frontman Felix Räuber set against a backdrop of heavy electronica to produce a deeply charged offering - a cascading beauty.

‘White Night’ features Mea Lux and vocoder vocals, a portrayal of disconnected humanity and longing for return.

The work illustrates Matthias Grübel’s adeptness and comfort to navigate and explore across the axes of Techno, IDM and Elektro whilst bringing
