Our weekly sustainable actions 💪
I’m obsessed with everything that you’ve been up to over the past week and how we’re each making small changes independently. I’m so proud of everything we’re doing for the environment.

Even if you think travelling by public transport isn’t a big deal, or planning your honeymoon in the UK instead of travelling overseas. Using up your leftover food before it goes bad or eating more plant based. All of those steps add up to bigger changes, especially when we’re making them together.

Let this be your inspiration to keep going even when you think it isn’t worth it. It really is. Together we can achieve anything 👏👏👏

What eco actions have you been up to that you’d add to the list?

Our weekly eco-friendly actions 💪
I’m pulling these incredible actions out of stories because they deserve a space on the feed! Small steps add up a big difference when we work together but we all need some encouragement to keep going sometimes.

Here are just some of the eco actions you took last week from composting to driving less. We’ve got this!!!!

What other steps have you taken this week?

How to keep your soap bar lasting for longer with the incredible handcrafted soap bars from ad

1. Cut your soap bars into smaller pieces, that way only the piece you’re using will get wet
2. Store your soap out of water, ideally using a soap dish with holes to allow the water to drain
3. Use a cloth or a loofah to apply the soap, limiting how much water gets on the soap bar
4. Add your soap ends to a soap saver once you get to the end of their use to keep them going for longer!

The soap bars from Nature’s Tree are big and will last a long time, even without these tips! I’m personally obsessed with the Lavender Body Bar, it smells SO GOOD and there’s nothing better than soap bars made by a small UK business from all natural ingredients.

Secondhand shopping is better for the environment & it’s a lot better for your pocket. Here’s the proof!
Yes the stuff is secondhand and you have to clean it but I love the thought of someone giving this stuff away so that someone else could give it a new life.

I needed a new office set up and I managed to get a mouse & keyboard for basically nothing saving myself at least £20. And I through in a card game and book because I cannot resist getting a book every time I go. It’s a problem 😂

Slight fail:
I did originally get a bright blue cool wireless mouse - you might have seen in my stories - but it turns out it was missing the usb so I had to return it and get another. This one isn’t quite so funky but it’s also a lesson for me to check that things work first!

Do you wear your clothes 30 times?
The 30 wear test is all about LOVING your clothes and being aware of how much you'll use your clothes before you buy them. It's simple. if you don't think you'll wear the item 30 times, don't buy it.

Fashion is an incredibly pollutive industry, with short trends, the death of the seasonal collection and huge overconsumption and lack of rewearing, reusing, repurposing fabrics.

I'm proud to have worn this top since 2014. In my life for almost 9 years, at this point it's part of my personality. Which piece of clothing have you had the longest?

HOW TO BANK ETHICALLY 🏦
It’s time to put your money where your ethics are.
Choosing an eco bank can be one of the simplest and most effective changes you as an individual can make to help the climate movement.

Will you make the switch?

The best cure for my mental well-being: the woods 🌳

Today’s the International Day of Forests.

We need trees to breathe.
We need trees to protect biodiversity.
We need trees to improve the soil.
We need trees to store carbon.
We need trees to regulate the temperature.

And personally, I need trees for somewhere to escape to, to protect my mind.

Where’s your outdoor escape?

Let’s talk water quality 💧🌊
Lake Ontario, Toronto is known for being filthy. It might look like the sea and while at the minute it’s a bit too cold for a dip, in the summer you’d think everyone would swarm there, but nope.

But it’s not as bad as the locals think.

The waterfront used to be filthy. Sewage would drain into the lake, animal runoff would pour off the coastline (sound familiar to the UK right now…) but a lot of work has been done to improve it.

For example, by Scarborough Bluffs there’s a stormwater treatment area that filters the water before it enters the lake.
They’ve rebuild wetlands to stop runoff and eliminated sewage overflows.

It’s still not perfect (and I’m not sure I’ll be swimming in it) but it work is being done. Here’s hoping the same happens in the UK.

Do you ever think about the quality of the water you’re swimming in?

There are some new faces here so I thought I’d do a little reintroduction 😌

Hiya I’m Charlie, a 30-year-old sustainability enthusiast 🌱
I’ve been on my sustainable living journey for over 5 years + I’m passionate about helping others on theirs. I run an online eco shop with my sister Trina & am all about sharing my top tips, educational snippets + fun sketches. Stick around if that’s what you’re into 🤗

Other than that, you’ll find me out in nature with my rescue dog Ziggy, growing veg in my garden, or most likely talking about sharks to anyone who’ll listen 🦈

I’d love to hear more about you and your interests 👇

About us

We're sisters, Trina & Charlie, living in Manchester (UK). We want to shop more ethically, and know where the products we buy come from. We love to support UK independent businesses, people who really care about what they are creating. Reducing single use plastic is at the very core of what we do. Here at LB4P, we carefully select our products to ensure they are eco-friendly, ethical and as zero waste as possible.

We've been into this for a while. We've spent summers building toilets in Nepal, weekends picking up rubbish on beaches and days chatting about recycling to our friends, family and anyone who will listen, plus going that bit further and studying how we can change our environment.

Check out our Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube for tips, tricks and news stories to keep you up-to-date on all things plastic-free, and join in the plastic free movement at www.lifebeforeplastik.com
